I know one personally...tried to help her but it's not gonna happen. She needs to figure out how to get there mentally first and then the actual cleaning can happen and last. Very sad!

I've got a friend like that too. It is sad. I gave up trying to help her after the 3rd time. I ended up doing the lion's share of the work while she sat off to the side saying how overwhelmed it all made her. I can't help her, all I was doing was enabling her.

I cannot stand a mess around me. I like to have my home look nice. It's inviting and comfortable (or so I am told all of the time...."cozy" is the word I hear). I have to be able to find something when I want it. And since my hearing is not the ebst----I think my sense of smell is heightened and it would kill me!

It's a much bigger issue than just being lazy or a slob, I think...

Oh absolutely and I wasn't trying to imply that my friend is just a slob or lazy. I hope that's not how I came across.(?)

Nope...not at all...I was just adding to the conversation. My friend, however is both of those things on top of whatever psychological issues drive her hoarding, messy lifestyle. It makes me very sad for her because I think she deserves better but she has to get there in her own mind first...
