Oh yeah! At the Wal-Mart I usually go to, there's a "greeter" who seems to deliberately avoid having to deal with anyone who walks in the door.

She'll wander over to the bakery section, or stand over a little table and pretend to be examining the dust on it, or something.

Just seems like a very unhappy person. Of course, when you're 4'3" and 700 years old, I suppose it takes a lot to put you in a festive mood.

Why would anyone want to be greeted when walking into a shop anyway?

I would prefer these people to ignore me. I fkn hate shopping at the best of times, the last thing i wasnt is some spotty teenager trying to smile at me an be pleasant. They should just stand there, shut the hell up, and speak only when spoken to.

Ok now here's the other side... Can you imagine only bring home $150 a week or less, to stand at the door way and smile, of a world corporation, that for 10 years straight has only gained profit and never lost money in their stock. To work for a company that doesn't pay their workers enough to live, but still you're trying to be thankful that you have a job... Ok I'm getting down off my soapbox now. I wasn't yelling, just asking everyone to walk in their shoes.

You do know that most Wal-Mart greeters are usually elderly retired people right?

for such a smart corporation, seems silly to even waste the money on a greeter. there's prolly deeper purpose than i'm aware of, but i don't see their relevance and think it's unecessary...and annoying. grumble

No i didnt, i have only ever been in a couple and dont remember seeing any greeter. If they are that old, they can sit down and shut up until spoken to!

I think you only get hired as a greeter these days if you hate mankind. They tend to check to see who's leaving with a receipt more than to say hello to you on the way in.
