In high school, when one particular kid was very popular and someone was jealous of him/her because everyone liked the girl/guy... the natural response was to become slightly bitter and bring that person down a bit any way you can. one way was by taking one of his/her positive attributes that people found attractive and making it into a put-down... classic high school psychology

since when were the leadership attributes of charisma and the ability inspire a bad thing?

if that's all people see then it's a bad thing

he's just a guy not a messiah

true, but who really sees obama as some sort of messiah? it seems to me that people over-exaggerate his ability to inspire into something that its not in order to ridicule it

The only people that I have seen call him a Messiah are the Republicans. I laugh and wonder why they say that.

you'll have to wander through the political threads to see that

me, I'm still apolitical. I think either Obama or McCain will prolly do a decent job as President

but I won't vote for either based on any American Idol style of popularity

they are both horrible choices for many different reasons. so don't try and kid yourself. But it is funny to see people argue which is more horrible than the other.
I just love how neither side is talking about real issues in this whole campaign.

Just because you may not agree with what he stands for, it doesn't mean that all the other people who do are only seeing him as someone who can speak well in front of others.

fair enough...

i dont think he's on the level of having an american idol style popularity though...
it's not the only attribute he possesses, the character he exhibits by refusing to lower himself to personal attacks during debates, the intelligence and good judgment in opposing the war from the start... bleh... ah well i guess i'm wasting my energy huh...

my point is not that you should vote for him soley because he possesses the skill of being able to inspire masses of people to be the best they can be, my point was that it is not supposed to be a negative attribute as some people like to ridicule it as.

By all means do not vote for the guy for whatever reason you deem worthy... but to decidedly not vote for him because he's popular? To turn the fact that he's good looking into a bad thing? That's McCain campaign jealousy tactics...

As someone who thinks both parties are leading the country in the wrong direction... Its not McCain being jealous of Obama's charisma, its just politics as usual..

Just like it was when Obama's campaign brought up McCain's multiple houses... Or Palin's wardrobe budget

Its a way to keep from talking about the issues, and demonize the other candidate...

i think its kinda relevant to bring up McCain's multiple houses when he accuses Obama of being elitist laugh

nahhh I'm not afraid of Obama or judging him. I'm afraid of the worshippers I keep seeing. I have this mental image of thousands of them marching like sleepwalkers chanting "oh-bah-mah, oh-bah-mah"

and the same from the other side, all these kneejerk Obama haters scare me just as much. I live in West Texas and you sure hear the stupid things people say about him

Gee I hear people chanting McCain McCain....how is that different?

I made some calls this morning to see if anyone I knew was voting for him thought Obama was "the chosen one"

After they got done laughing and choking to ask me if I'd gone mad or suffered a head injury they all said no.

Religious zealotry I think runs deeper on the republican side. Perhaps that's why they seem to so often see it in others.

maybe, but I'm not a Republican

and I don't support McCain. I think he has run a crappy inneffectual campaign and that bodes ill for his style of governing

one thing that does worry me though is Obama supporting Pelosi and Reid in a filibuster proof Congress. That seems like a bad idea (when either party has it)
