Whether the english language is the official American language or not, it has been this way for years.
I agree that if the immigrants come to this country they should at least know how to speak the language.
And yes, I do get upset when I have to press 1 for English.
It's bad enough that we're losing our jobs overseas. It's getting to the point more and more that America is feeling like overseas as well.
Can we not hold on to anything that our ancestors relished in?
I can't believe it's still 'press 1 for english'. It'll be a point in time where it'll say 'press 1 for spanish, press 2 for french, press 3 for english'
I love my country...and I want to keep it as such.

becca - we are all immigrants, the Indians are the only true Americans

I love my country too - USA is my country waving

actually it is believed (by a lot of science types) they (indians) came from russia across the bierring land bridge

so who knows who they wiped out to take over

betcha they didnt speak English

ya never know they may have been forced to build a boat and cross the ocean and landed on the island just west of europe

total speculation

I think English should be our official language.

It would be a more efficient way of doing business.

This does not mean people should be punished for speaking other languages. People who require assistance should be provided translators especially in court.

None of my relatives knew English when they arrived here but they learned. Of course they continued to speak their native tongue in the home but business was always done in English.
