Your best bet is to take it to the cops. They'll return it to you if nobody claims it and then it really is yours with no moral issues.

They actually have to provide a chain of evidence to the person who turned it in on request.

You know some honest Bobbies then, I have known Bobbies to hide or tamper with important evidence that was needed in court and got their colleagues to cover for them.

I have returned money to cashiers that have made a mistake, as well as the 4000.00 I found & mentioned yesterday. I know I have done the right thing, let people laugh. If that's how they are, I don't care.
Finding cash with no ID is a far cry from knowingly driving away from a bank with money or a reciept for money that you know is not yours! You KNOW where that money belongs! Someone surely got fired over that.

Of course being a Athiest I have no morals so what do I know? Right?

That is wierd that it was on a trial....in a plain white envelope...
Take it to the cops..if it isnt claimed you'll get it after a certain time.

Check to see if it's counterfeit money.

If I counterfeited money, I'd leave it for some suckers to find and spend, to see if it passes for real before I venture to print more.

a simple ad in your local paper asking for a description, where, what it was in, the amount.
could be place for free....

maybe its a good thing for you, but look at who may have lost it
single parent,4 kids, they were spending time together that afternoon . when they were done they were going grocery shopping......

the true rewards you would recieve could be far more than 130 bucks.

In California you are required by law to make an effort to find the owner which usually means something like putting an ad in the paper. It's easier just to turn it in to the cops and if no one claims it, it's yours. It's also morally the right thing to do. JMO.

It sounds a little suspicious.... who is clumsily carrying around a plain white envelope of money on a walking trail?

Probably and elderly person walking their dog. Many people on social security can't afford checking fees or trust banks.

Its amazing how moralistic people are pretending they would be over 130 bucks in a plain envelope. Id rather just leave it there on the floor than go to the bother of taking it to the police or anything else. Of course, it would just go straight in my pocket though.

If i dropped any amount of money on the floor myself i wouldnt expect to get it back. Finders keepers losers weepers.

130 is not much....you are right!!!!

but to the family living on aluminum cans they picked up out of the ditch.....
or the single parent that is wondering what to feed their children tonight.....
ask them what 20 bucks means to them.
if it is truely acceptable, to throw our moral fiber to the weigh side.....
tell me why I should give a damn if you are mugged,car-jacked, or worse!!???

afterall your loss,his gain right???

I went for a LONG walk tonight to the lake. And part of that walk lead me on this trail. No houses or buildings around. Just a quiet man made trail with trees and stuff around. I was listening to my iPod and like always just staring at the ground as I walked. I saw this envelope and notice it did not look empty. It caught my eye so I picked it up and opened it. Inside there was $130 in 20's, 10's and 5's.

My question to you people of Mingle2 is, what should I do with it? What would you do with it?

Please note the envelope was just plain white, with nothing on it.

i remember one yr i went to the bank with my mom as she deposited some money into her account and the teller gave her a recipe of $1,000 and she only gave the teller $100 not a $1,000 we laughed about there mistake and she never told them

You can bet the teller lost her job and probably her career over it.

My heart bleeds, awolf..

I dont want you to give a damn about me. If i get mugged or anything else, its not your problem.

If 20 dollars, or 130 dollars, is so important to someone, they should be more careful with it.
