My Aunt has it. She says it feels better when she exercises.

i have 2 friends who suffer from it ... one maintains a healthy diet and tai chi, and manages quite well ...

the other is overwhelmed and striving to cope, for which i keep her, and all who suffer from this illness, in my prayers...

Thank you, I was wondering what others have and are trying to help deal with the pain.

i wish you and her strength and hope... from what i have seen through others' experiences, it does seem to be largely mental in nature,,, insofar as there is a correlation between attitude, action, and symptom severity...

also, with one of my friends, food allergies were also an issue... she must abstain from protein sources, pretty much.

best.

Fibromyalgia

Is a word Doctors use when they can't really find anything Clinically wrong with you.....

It is not a disease, but rather a Condition....

"Definition
You hurt all over, and you frequently feel exhausted. Even after numerous tests, your doctor can't find anything specifically wrong with you. If this sounds familiar, you may have fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points — places on your body where slight pressure causes pain. Fibromyalgia is more common in women than in men. Previously, fibromyalgia was known by other names such as fibrositis, chronic muscle pain syndrome, psychogenic rheumatism and tension myalgias.

Although the intensity of your symptoms may vary, they'll probably never disappear completely. It may be reassuring to know, however, that fibromyalgia isn't progressive or life-threatening. Treatments and self-care steps can improve fibromyalgia symptoms and your general health."

But....there are trigger points that the doctors press into.
They hurt a lot when that person has Fibromyalgia. It doesn't bother people that don't have it.

yes, some of the trigger points hurt so bad, it brought tears to my eyes....and I found myself cringing when he'd start to go to another pressure point.

Cymbalta is a new antidepressant drug that also helps with pain control and it has been really helpful with a lot of patients with fibromyalgia. You may want to talk to your doctor about it. Would be worth a try. Good luck.

Circuit Rider is right on.... this can happen when doctors give up or just want you out of their office.

The issue is there is NO TEST to determine if this condition actually exists. In the past, it was what was often referred to as a "malaise".

Exercise, positivity, focus, determination, therapy... these all seem to help. I know many who feel this 'condition' is actually a depression or psychological ailment that manifests itself physically.

I am sorry you are in pain, but think positive? If it helps, great, but if not you have nothing to lose.

I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. The very first thing the Dr.'s did was try different anti-depressants. Cymbalta was horrible, I had a very bad reaction to this. Lexapro works the best for me. I have found that I sleep better if I take the Lexapro at night instead of in the morning. After struggling for years with multiple symptoms: Pain, Fatigue ( and by fatigue I mean sheer exhaustion), inability to sleep, weight gain, moodiness, etc.; I finally found an Endocrinologist that has helped tremendously. He discovered I also have hypothyrodism (low thyroid). He explained that usually there are other health conditions along with the fibromyalgia. I take Synthroid for my thyroid. It does take time to find the right dose and I do have a blood test done every 3 months. Also, DO NOT take the generic form of Synthroid. It does not work for the majority of people, so much so my insurance won't even pay for the generic. I take this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Exercise is also a big help but you have to find what works for you. Don't ever push yourself!! Walking and swimming work the best for me. If you have any questions feel free to email me anytime! I wish you the best of luck and will keep you in my prayers!!

Thank you SOOOO much. I have joined the Fibromyalgia Network, I read alot on their site. I'll figure out a way to control this, rather then letting it control me.

I've heard that Fibromyalgia pts. have awful pain when the trigger points are pressed into by the doctor.

Have you seen a pain management doctor yet?
