Well, in my mind it's not so much about me but rather the wonderful opportunities I've been fortunate enough to participate in to help others. I am lucky enough to be involved with several non-profit groups that are dedicated to meeting the needs of those who are struggling and hurting, as well as several organizations that impact systemic change through legislation and policy changes. True change... Beyond that, raising my sons to be honorable, charitable people who want to make a difference and give back, while practicing those concepts myself, is what I try to do on a daily basis. Way cool a full and I am sure a happy life Well, as most of us can attest...some days it's VERY rewarding; some days it breaks your heart. All we can do is keep trying. Thank you for caring, and for posting this thoughtful topic. |

Helping has it's highs and lows (as you had mentioned), we also seem many times in those ow times feeling very alone...with this tread you can see you are not the "only one" |

I was worried that I was causing calamities of epic proportions to mount up inevitably and crash down upon all the generations to come!!
But, then I helped an elderly person today, with a simple gesture of thoughtfulness. And I smiled and held a door open for a pregnant young lady. And I left plenty of room for a harried driver to change lanes without being sandwiched by a truck. And...moment by moment...hour by hour...I fought to do enough good deeds to outweigh the big calamities that my being an American shall bring upon the world. |

I don't require thanks or recognition for things I do... To make the world a better place, I try to make at least one person smile every day, help people in need, raise a beautiful and caring child who sees the good in everything around her...
I'm just me. I wouldn't be happy if I weren't doing what I can to help others. I'm sure a lot of people feel that way. |

Well I think it is not just raising my children, one of which is defending this nation right now, but that I lead by example. I believe in the "pay it forward" notion and live it every day. I try to be the best person that I can be and encourage others to try the same.

i just do "it" ....not looking for accolades The people who just do whatever it is naturally are the ones that make the biggest impact, IMO, because it isn't ABOUT getting recognition... Also, doing good things naturally/automatically is a reflection of the kind of character we need to make the world a better place. There are a lot of really great responses in this thread...it kinda humbles me to know that there are so many good people here on M2...kudos to everyone, even though that's not why you do what you do :) |

Most days, I just keep my mouth shut.

I found the world was much too big for me to try to tackle, so the best place to start was with me and hopefully how I live my life and how it touches others will be for good and leave an imprint of kindness.

Raising two intelligent, hard working, loving, daughters. They lost their father July 26th of this year and are having a difficult time. I get to be both mom and dad. Also, I work with Special Needs children and have been doing so for 11 years. Very rewarding and heart warming. Their faces light up and arms go up for hugs when you walk in the classroom each morning.

I agree with the "pay it forward" way of life as well...
I really just treat people as I'd like to be treated and teach my children to do the same. |

I make a difference by being a volunteer firefighter for 12 years and a medical responder for 7. While taking no pay and being on one of the very few departments left that does not charge for any services. And raising a little boy on my own.
