I'm Hardcore Straight-Edge, which is different than conventional straight-edge which is simply being drug free and has been watered down by people trying to be trendy and not really meaning it.

Hardcore Straight-Edge or as I call it "True Straight-Edge" Means I cannot partake of recreational Drugs, Alcohol, or Recreational Sex (Marital only). Nothing to distract me from my Discipline.

Sorry about the rant.

I'm actually a little more careful with someone who professes to be a T-totaller. Sometimes that's a red flag that they have an addicition problem, but they're now "clean and sober". Unfortunately that's often a relapse just waiting to happen.

I'm sure this won't set well with a lot of folks, but I don't hold any grudges against someone who can and does enjoy a drink or three, now and again. I also don't have a problem with folks who like to smoke, either instead of or in addition to having a drink on occassion.

It's all about moderation, in my opinion. If someone goes way off the deep end about anything...dope, booze, sex, religion...it just ain't healthy.

If I had to make a societal choice of alcohol vs. weed I'd pick weed every time. I've never heard of anyone beating their spouse or wrapping their car around a telephone pole because they got too stoned. They may eat everything in the house, have a lower level of ambition, or something like that, but all in all that's all pretty benign in my book...compared to other choices.

I'm with Bent. I don't mind someone who smokes weed, as long as it's not an hourly habit.

I hate the fact that there has to be "hardcore" or "true" straight edge. Straight edge should just be straight edge. Not..."I'm pretty much straight edge other than I smoke cigs".

I understand where you are coming from. Your either straight edge or your not. There is no inbetween.

please dot get angry... I usually try to keep things on topic but i was actually and still will do a post on the " straight edge" way of life. I know it is deff becoming a trend but beyond that I am very against my life being defined and categorized in such a way. while in grad school i was eating lunch wit ha group of people and they were all getting excited about going out to get drunk after a big exam. they asked me if i was down and i agreed to go out but told them i wouldn't be drinking because i don't do that. one woman immediately said " oh so you are straight edge"... I replied " no i am simply a person who doesn't drink smoke or do drugs.

I understand and agree. Being Drug Free and all that is only simplifying Straight-edge. Straight-Edge is a way of life with more to it then all I've mentioned. It is entirely possible to be clean of such distractions without being straight-edge.

I'm afraid it's gotten so popular that people who follow trends without fully understanding them have attempted to adopt it.

2 - 3X a day in huge quantities isn't what I'd call moderation. Reminds me of a cartoon where a guy had an arm load of books stacked higher than his head. The caption was, "If a person were to read every book Stephen King's ever written they wouldn't have time for much of anything else."

I love listening to Bradley Nowells but "Smoke Two Joints" isn't what I'd consider a great mantra for life.

Now I'm wondering....are the people you're referring to really excessive pot smokers, or do they just need to spring for better stuff?
