Melatonin is a very good suggestion, as stated above.

Valerian Root is a good alternative as well.

Not to mention, getting OFF the computer and actually laying down to rest can work wonders also.
honestly... it sounds nice and simple but getting off the computer only means she'll spend the next 2-3 hours bored and not sleeping.

EXACTLY....

Tips for Better Sleep from Grandma J

Have a worry box you can write your worries down for a limited time (10-30 minutes) in a journal and then close it or lock it and put it away.

Have a calendar and a budget. Many people worry about money and better habits can help you reduce stress.

Address health issues. Arthritis, incontenience, fibromyaligia, and depression can rob you of precious sleep.

Put your kids to bed earlier and do not let them sleep with you or in your bed until you retire.

If you have a spouse that has a seperate sleep schedule get seperate beds or rooms, quiet switches and dimmers for the lights, lay out their night clothes and silence key trays with felt. Wd40 swacking doors or floor boards.

Have a Bedtime routine that is soothing to you. Organize your outfit for the next day, set out the table for breakfast, lock doors, put on comfortable sleepwear, fold back the bed, saying a matra or prayer, listen to a white noise such as a fan, aquarium pump, dryer, or favorite intrumental music in a comfortable chair before you get in bed.

Lower lighting an hour before bedtime.

If you like tv and can just listen to it darken the screen or turn it where you can not see the flickering light pattern. Check your reactions to various programs; if they keep you awake avoid them.

Turn off or cover all red or radient green lights on the computer. Take the computer out of the sleeping area. If your child can walk to you turn off the baby monitor. Buy room darkening shades and cover mirrors that reflect light into your room.

If you relax on the computer buy a good filter screen or sun glasses so the light is not reflected in your eyes especially before bedtime. Set your update times so that don't cycle on while you are sleeping. .

Wash your hair and change your pillow case each day. If you can not wash your hair wipe it with a damp cloth and brush it slowly and gently. Use a neck massager and gentle streaching and relaxing exercises. Remove hair ties or barrets or earrings that poke you as you roll around in bed.

Many times you can't sleep because of allergies
Use Latex bedding it is 300 times more resistant to dust mites. Change your furnace filter at least monthly. Use a circulateing fan in the bathroom to prevent mold. Clean ceiling fans and and heating vents where possible.

Take medications such as decongestants, steroids and some blood pressure pills earlier in the day. Realize that some sleep medications are not for everyone. Dalmane causes nite terrors and lowers the quality of your Reem sleep for some people. So does alcohol which is in many things includeing mouth wash.

Have a less stimulating night tooth paste. Avoid cleaning the toilet or other areas with Ammonia based cleaners at bed time.

Avoid caffine or eleminate it from your diet. It stays in your system up to 18 hours. Read labels caffine is added to many foods and beverages.

Avoid smoking before bedtime. Stop smoking. Don't over dose on the patch because it is too cold to go outside to smoke.

Avoid Red, orange, and yellow artificial flavors and MSG.

Add an apple and a banana to your daily diet.

If you are thirsty drink warm water or decafinated teas Generic Chamomile is excellent rest inducer.

If you are milk allergic you can substitute soy milk or yogurt. or a slice of turkey. Nibble on a few oaty o's or a small amount of salt free nuts.

Massage your feet with lavedar lotion and elevate your legs. Wear non binding socks.

Buy a body pillow and eye sheilds. If the sheets bug you sleep on a blanket or in a sleeping bag.

If you are having trouble going to sleep take and early evening walk and go to bed earlier. Sometimes you are over tired. Avoid late after noon naps after work.

If you are on a reduced rate utilities see if the heat and cooler cycleing off in the middle of the night is waking you up. Ask the utility company to reset it for a better time or turn it off.

If you live in a noisy neighborhood ban together with neighbors and talk to your local police department and city planners about noise abatement programs.

Go to Habitat for Humanity ReStores and buy reduced rate insulation, calk, or even new windows to quiet and even out the temperature of the room.

Last but not least convince yourself that good sleep habits and restoritive sleep is critical to being a responsible driver, a healthy adult, and a good parent because it is. Sweet Dreams

honestly... it sounds nice and simple but getting off the computer only means she'll spend the next 2-3 hours bored and not sleeping.

Honestly, being bored is a state of mind and nearly anything mind-based can be altered, if you are willing to put forth the effort to change the habit.

Basically almost all sleep disorders originate in the brain as that is the driving force for our sleep (except for those that are pathologically driven outside of the brain).

Change the brain's learned pattern of insomnia, and the body WILL follow.

Yes, it IS simple. Quickly fixed, no...but, simply...yes. It all starts with the first step.

If you are not willing to try healthy suggestions offered here, just smack yourself in the head with a 2x4, really HARD. That should do the trick. winking

I suffer from insomnia, and its cos i have an overactive mind.

Ive tried a few things over the yrs, and a couple that have worked included, cutting out caffeine, (i have drunk decaffe for the last 4/5 yrs) another is putting a couple of drops of lavender oil on a piece of kitchen towel, and putting it inside my pillow case.

Lavender is a natural remedy that helps u to relax.

Also, some light exercise before bed can help tire ya out.

* Just wanna add, its good to monitor ur sugar intake in the evening. Often wat we eat at night can keep us awake.
