ya meet the nicest people along side the highway!!!

I build, race, and drive daily my bikes.....
yes even in the winter!!!!

people need to get truely informed, before they go on the attack.
yes bikes can lead to fatalities.....alcohol plays a major factor in this. as well as the other guy not paying attention to the road.

I have riding dirt bikes, ATV's, ATC's, and motorcycles. They are a blast.

I am not sure why Jessica feels that they are disgusting. Motorcycles do use less gas than cars, omit less exhaust than cars, trucks or other means of transportation.

Oh you might be surprised to actually know the type of person that rides motorcycles. In my town I can tell you that yes cheerleaders ride so do Doctors, lawyers, even a judge rides, the pharmacist, police officers (off duty as well as on), the local sheriff is the president of his own bike club.

You shouldn't judge people before you know what you are talking about.

AS for the energy use, it takes more energy to provide your home with electric to run you computer than a motorcycle will ever use. JMO

Yes, there are a lot of accidents on motorcycles. However, a good many of those accidents are caused by other drivers who are too selfish to pay attention to those around them. They are too busy talking on the phone or drinking their coffee to watch the road. Of course safety is critical if you plan to ride a bike much, that goes without saying and your odds increase that in an accident you will likely have injuries.

At my place of employment we manufacture motorcycles. In a place that employs over 30,000 people, there are thousands of motorcycle owners who are responsible and DO use their bikes to get to work and back everyday in good weather. They wear helmets and appropriate clothing and they respect the road. Those people also saved a ton of money this summer. And they looked good doing it......

On a personal note, I don't think it's disgusting at all. I understand where your coming from and I am holding off from getting one myself until my kids are older.....but I don't think it's fair to bunch the whole group into one category. Not every bike owner is out to just look cool. That's just a lil perk in my book!

I understand about the job situation, but did you know that we are short C.N.A's? I'm 100% positive that if the bike shops went outta business, everyone would be perfectly fine. And I'm not judging one group, but honestly, what kind of people do you see riding? Cheerleaders? Lawyers? Bank manager? I knew one guy my entire life that rode his bike to work, and he owned a shop, and he didnt own a car as well to pollute even more. It was either or for him. Now that was a respectful man.

Jessica.......yes all those types of people ride motorcycles and more. You might be surprised if you knew a little bit more about this. Maybe the ones you see injured are mostly the drunk rough riding type people? I dunno, but it's not just for Hells Angels anymore.

I agree looking at bikes, tinkering, riding is a blast. Most the people I have met who ride are actually pretty nice. A lot of the people who have smaller or older bikes it is a cheap means of transportation. For the others it is relaxing hobby with a little bit of flirtation with the image. But most bikes are big bucks and that same money that you have setting in the garage more time than not is and expensive toy for vanity or pissing off your ex. If you dump it or mess it up because you really don't know how to mechanic on it it is going to cost you BIG bucks to fix it. They are also an attractive nusciance to every low life to come in your space and rip you off.
The really sad thing is sooner or later you are going to get hurt. Most of the time I have been nearly wiped out it was not the fault of the rider but some selfish jerk driveing a car gawking. It is a proven fact statisticlly "They" are not going to share the road so you are rolling the dice every time you get on the road. When you are lying in intensive care who's fault it is really isn't going to matter. Catestrophic medical bills are never "covered" by insurance and you and the people who love you are going to be bankrupted by your care. If you can't pay you are going to be pushed to the curb as fast as they can. Since even a "minor" accident can put you in a wheelchair you can just about count on not having a place to live but some nasty nurseing home.
Because the injuries are so severe it is something I don't recommend for anyone who has someone depending on them like children, spouses, or aged parents. When you get hurt a lot of people suffer. When you get hurt you suffer; often for the rest of your life. A lot of times alone. You are the stark reminder that your old riding buddy's don't want to see.
When you get killed it isn't pretty way to die. When your body becomes a missle it turns to mush on impact. If there is enough of you to identify in one peice, which is rare, someone has that image in their mind for the rest of their life.

There was a topic just like this one, and I will say the same thing I said in there, bikers are known as organ donors in all hospitals. Just a waste of space if you ask me. Plus, its a waste of gas, some people on here would argue saying, "Bikes use less gas dummy." Okay, that may be true, but do you ride the bike when you have to go to work everyday? NO YOU DONT! We are running out of oil! Go ride a real bike, a pedal bike! you might think your cool on a motor bike, but your really disgusting.

You might be right on the type of people that ride, but I worked at those hospitals, I know how the accidents were caused. 91% of the time it was caused by someone else other than the biker, The other driver didnt see them. I know that's not the biker's fault, but that's just how it is. I'd just love to see a biker gang wearing instead of flaming skulls, or some crap like that, wear a patch that said, "Organ donors" lol.

Yep... it's pretty typical for people get extremely polarized over the issue of motorcycle riding.

Motherhood causes a lot of deaths and disfigurement too, and of course it is a total waste of our precious natural resources, but I'm betting if I started saying how "stupid" and "disgusting" women are for having kids, I would soon be looking for another internet forum to hang out on.

When I worked on site in a hospital (I don't anymore--I still work for hospitals and clinics, but use the internet and do my work from home) I used to get a lot of amusement out of the comments hospital staff would make about my showing up to work on a motorcycle.

I would only get scolded and harangued if I was carrying my helmet (meaning that I was riding responsibly and safely). If I did not wear my helmet--as Colorado does not have a mandatory helmet law--then people would either not scold me, because there was no way they would know that I rode my bike to work that day, or they would say that I looked cool.

If I walked into the hospital cafeteria carrying my motorcycle helmet, one of the ladies who worked there would give me the (entirely unsolicited) advice that I was "digging my own grave" by "riding that thing". Another staff member who was a male nurse had a flashy older model Harley. He never wore a helmet but he had acquired some notoriety among other hospital staff for having badass bike. This same cafeteria lady would simper and fawn all over this guy because of his "bad boy" image. (Naturally, he was a huge nerd. His bike was the only "bad" thing about him.) People would observe her cutting on me because I was holding my helmet, and brown-nosing him because he was known to have invested enough money to feed a family of seven for a couple of years in his bike, and think it was funny. (A lot of people seem really to LIKE the double standard. I think it's sort of like religion, i.e., a shelter for stupidity.)

Anyway, one day while he was "riding with the boys" this Harley-riding male nurse ran his expensive bike onto a barrier and totaled it. He was also seriously injured in the deal, and sported a cast and crutches for many months afterwards.

For some reason, though he had previously ignored me, this nice young man would mouth insults and glare at me every time I passed him in the hall.

For those civilians in the group: Don't ever assume that a person becomes involved in the health care industry because that person is compassionate and "loves helping people".

They say it, but they don't mean it.

Always be careful on your bike. Take a safety class if you can afford it. After this excellent demonstration of how those in the "caring profession" think of us--do you want to risk ending up in their hands?

Motorcycle riding is just about the most fun you can have legally. When I'm on a good road flying through a nice scenic area, I can not only smell the trees and grass, but actually FEEL their presence. And of course, there's no better way to enjoy the sensation of SPEED (not the drug, but the thing itself). xoxoxo

ok answer this to me????
insurance on a car ( valued at $15,000) will run you around a $100 a month for full coverage.

where insurance on a $15,000 harley is around $20 per month.
I would like to know why this is from the insurance industries.......especially when most bikes in wrecks are totaled. medical bills etc.

is it because bikes are more manueverable than cars, stop 10x faster, faster accelleration, avoiding more accidents...

It's about how much damage you're likely to be liable for. If you have a wreck and it's your fault, you aren't likely to do nearly as much damage on a motorcycle as you are in a car. And you're much less likely to cause the car's occupants any injuries ($$$). It's all about the $$$
