My eyes get assaulted by some pictures of some famous women that men tend to think of as hot.

These poses seem to be designed to show of a little muscle too. So you have a slender woman, nice definition in the arm muscles, and all the sudden bones.

Bones in the shoulders that I don't think are supposed to show, ribs that I know really should not be showing.

And I keep questioning the fact that men find skeletons showing through skin to be be hot. I keep questioning the fact that men like to have sex with skin and bones......

And I had an add in my inbox the other day that a company I like is looking for models. Must be under 25 yrs old and under a size 5.

I love the look of many of their corsets, but I wonder if I should email them that corsets do tend to look a little silly on people that scrawny.

But how do people fight a media that keeps trying to tell the world that women should look only slightly better fed than Holocaust victims?

I am not smaller than a size five....not much bigger but not smaller. In college I did adds for Macy's and local stores to make money. I was always called big...it was weird because my family used to say that I as too thin...ha ha. I couldn't get much thinner cause I love pizza!! ha ha

I think the industry IS fighting the skeleton, starved Holocaust look.

Europeon models are required to have more meat than before.

It will come around .. thank God.

I completely disagree...there are those in the world that are apathetic and those that fight for what they believe in. Those that fight are the ones that make a difference and change the world. Fight for that which you believe in! Think outside of the box and change this miserable world in which we live!

It because it is unhealthy, and it does a disservice to our kids and ourselves.

Sure, we are the fattest country. And yet we are constantly being bombarded with the idea that we have to be unhealthy in the opposite direction to look good.

I also think it contributes to the low self esteem problems that many young girls and women have today about the bodies.

I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is the heart that matters. Most of the world is very superficial and it disgusts me.

not promoting apathy....

if you look for something to offend you...you will find it....daily.....

ignore does not equal apathy

Sometimes I think they need to model big girls because these days the big girls always see the petite women modeling and it makes them feel like they need to loose weight even if they like there self like that. IF there was a company modeled for big girls I think it would encourage them to go out and do more things and find a wide variety of clothes.

I wasn't trying to offend you or personally attack you. But having an opinion means nothing if you do not voice it. Some things are important and affect us greatly. I have a daughter and will be damned if she has low self esteem because of the way women are portrayed in today's society. I was merely saying that if you feel strongly about something you should do something about it. Ignoring the problem only makes it worse.

I agree fully.

I was even anti-Barbie for a long time with my daughter, but finally had to give in.

I saw a magazine on the rack at the grocery stor, I don't buy them because I think they are drivel, but it had 2 TV stars (don't ask me who I don't watch TV much) and they are not allowed back on TV til they gain some weight.

We live in a culture where portions are too big, food is too fatty and yet skin and bones are what the media portrays as sexy? WTF?

That show on TV "How to Look Good Naked" is one of the best ideas the creators could have come up with.

I am a large girl and for years I was like most, low self esteem and all. It effects every aspect of your life, from relationships with a spouse, your children, friends, and family too.

After I left my husband, I met the most wonderful person and he taught me that my self worth had nothing to do with my outward appearance. Granted it took him many months to convince me that I was indeed a great looking person and a great person. Now if every woman in the world had him there would be no self esteem issues.

Once I started feeling better about myself, things in my life changed. I still say that a person's attitude has a great deal to do withhow the feel about them selves. That is why self esteem is so important to teach our young girls to love who that are not what they look like.

This is something that I have passed on to my children and hope they pass it on to theirsflowerforyou

Thank you! I was a long road to get to where I am now!

The best saying I ever heard was that you need to love yourself before others can love you.

This statement says it all!flowers

If they would serve appropriate serving sizes, and adjust the costs of dining out to match the smaller portions, more people could afford to go out to the nicer restaurants.

But what I was going to say is that my friends 11 year old daughter thought she was too fat. She was THIN.

And I once heard my oldest niece ask if she was too fat back when she was in 6th grade. (She graduates next year). She was SKINNY. She was a long baby and was always at the bottom of her weight range. But in her weight range, the the lowest rung of it. She is very tall and she just kept growing upwards as fast as she was filling out. So she looked skinny up until she started developing. Now she just looks slender.

And these kinds think they are fat. I don't actually thin Barbie has as much to do with it as the other forms of the media. And people saying they are fat.

My friends 11 year old thought she was fat because her GRANDMOTHER kept telling her she was fat. The Grandmother did the same thing to her own daughter. My friends Senior Prom picture shows a girl that is so skinny and bony, she looks anorexic. She filled out and got healthy as soon as she got out of her mother's house.

It does damage young children's images of themselves.

My daughter is very thin.. in the 25% percentile of weight, and is 6, she came home from daycare one day and asked me if she was fat.

It starts so young, and it's sad.

I tell my daughter everyday that I love her and that she is beautiful and pretty. I figure society will beat her down eventually I gotta combat that while she still thinks I am a God.
