Would you rather have a job that required a lot mental concentration/ thinking/ brainstorming OR a job that required a lot of physical labor /strength/ endurance???

When you punch out what would you want to tax the most....your brain or body?

Well my job now is a lot of physical labor and after 19 years of it, the body is starting to fall apart. Screwed up back and torn rotator cuff in left shoulder, I would love to be able to switch over to the brainstorming part of the job now.........

I've had a torn rotator cuff before. That is sooo painful!

And I want my brain taxed.

Id rather have the best of both worlds... Nothing in excess is good for you.

I have a cerebral job and I love it. I change my clothes when I get home and flip the switch (so to speak), then I think about my life if I need to, but try to relax and have fun.

It's important to use and challenge your brain regularly. This keeps you more vital, alert, and prevents senility. As great as physicality in a job can be, it cannot, in my opinion, replace the need to exercise your brain, to strain it, daily.

I spent 20 years out in the elements working heavy construction. In the last year I've moved into an office doing CAD drawings for new projects. As broke down as I am from all the years out on job sites I still like it better than being stuck in an office.

Thats true.

My thoughts have always been "use it...or loose it". Use your muscles or you'll loose them...including the brain.

I've had both types of jobs and I've been stressed with both and satisified as well.

Its the blend of both that makes me happiest, but my current job lacks any physical "workout" just a lot of thinking/planning/plottinglaugh

I like a balance of both, and i have that in my job.

Im always on the move, and have to deal with many students demanding my attn, which can include dealing with emotional issues, physical issues and social issues. I also have to work with a diverse group of students in class finding methods for their learning. My job is very intense, and at times, my colleagues and i dont even get to sit down for lunch without a student coming in and asking us to deal with an issue they have.

Its very intense and unpredictable at times, but i actually thrive on it. I like to come home at the end of the day knowing i have provided a quality service, made a difference, and worked hard.

My job isn't very physically demanding ( although there are days when it can be ) and it's not particularly taxing mentally either.

There are a lot of things to think about when I am doing it, but after having done the job for four years, the things I have to do are pretty much second nature.

It's kinda funny to watch a new person come in and try to do the job that I do. They always have trouble.

It's particularly funny when that person is one of those that I have heard say how easy my job is..lmao

It would be ideal if I had a job that was both, but at least my (extremely) mentally taxing job is done in a setting where I can be as active as I like when I get up from the desk, because I work at home.

Sitting for long periods of time can be just as physically damaging as a job in which one has to lift heavy weights or deal with dangerous equipment, so I try to do something that gets my circulation going and unbends my joints after every few hours of work. yours in Chaos, Scarlett

SOME DAYS ITS ALL MENTAL, OTHERS ITS ALL PHYSICAL.
MY JOB CLASSIFICATION CALLS FOR BOTH .IF I HAD TO PUT A % TO IT, 60% MENTAL 30% PHYSICAL AND 10% FUKKING OFF....LOLlaugh

A musician's life taxes both body (performance) and brain (composition), but it's so damn fun bigsmile

I have two jobs... one that stretches the mind, and one that calms the mind, whilst challenging the body.

Best of both worlds..bigsmile

The job i have allows me to spend about 60-80 percent of my time online, so i will keep this one! It can be very stressful, as it is highly responsible and we can get some very serious situations arising. It used to be mentally taxing, it takes most people at least a year or so to beable to learn the job(well, some people just cant do the job full stop, it does take a certain caliber of person). But now i am experienced i can relax for most of my shift. On a very quiet night i might only actually work for about an hour out of 12.

Oh yeah, and i only have to work 14 shifts a month!

I would sometimes like a more taxing job which challenges me more, but this one is just too cushy, and the more taxing job i would get probably wouldnt pay as well either.

I feel the same about mine.....I have an online job 24-7 but I also do many things throughout the day, week and month to stay physical...mainly playing football and lifting 4 times a week. But the physical can be stopped at anytime...little or a lot-on my terms though since my job is not all that physical until the season starts up.
