OK, what happened? We got a load of pallets in tonight. Each one weighs about 60 pounds. The trailer is 98 inches wide, and the pallets are 48 inches long. They load them side by side length wise, so there isn't a whole lot of room to maneuver them. A couple of pallets on the top of the stacks I was trying to unload got stuck together and wound up falling off the stack I was pulling. I finished getting THAT stack out of the truck and went back in to pick up the ones that had fallen. I walked into the trailer and moved the first one that was on the floor and put it on top of another one. Well..I didn't see that the very top pallet on the other stack was kinda teetering there, and when I put the one I was moving on top of the other one, it must have shaken the trailer just enough for the one on top of the other stack to shake loose. I had my back to the stack so I didn't see it coming. I heard our Assistant Warehouse Manager yell " lookout " so I moved forward just a bit. The pallet came down and hit me in the back, and then fell on my ankle. Had I not heard him yell, or hesitated at all, the pallet would have come down on the back of my neck and in all probability broken it. I was about 10 inches from being paralyzed or dead. NOT a good feeling at all. I am fine though. My ankle is a bit sore, but other than that I am ok. |

I mean, it scared the crap out of me when it happened, but I took a few minutes to collect myself while someone else took over for me. In about 20 minutes, I was back to y normal self. Now I am just sitting here thinking that I REALLY need to be a bit more careful no matter how busy we are. : shrugs : I definitely am counting my blessings though. I let Ray ( the guy who yelled ) know that I am AWFULLY glad he was there and saw the pallet coming down. |

But doesn't a brush with death really give you a great rush? Does it for me. And that slow motion...TOO cool. Only bad thing is that you have to be...umm...close to death. lol
I have some great close to death experiences that I obviously lived through, none quite as mundane as yours, but hey, close is close. Cool, huh? |

I am so glad you are OK. You may be hurting worse tomorrow, back injuries can stay hidden for a while. Did you get checked out? You should. I am assuming an incident report was filled out. *gentle hug*
