What about irrational reasons to vote for Obama?

He preaches change, but do people even look at his policies?

Because they want to see the first African American president.
He is not even technically african american.
"That means that Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side. He is 43.75% Arabic, and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side." Even though his father lived in Kenya, his nationality according to Kenyan government was Arabic.
(not that race should play a part in the election anyway)

Because he is Charismatic. Speaking will only get you so far. Can he do more than just talk? IDK, he hasn't been around long enough to demonstrate this.

so far, I'm kinda leaning towards McCain, but that could change. I'm not sure I trust him

but Obama's cult of personality thing is starting to scare me

Now that the first debate has been televised, do you still feel this way?

I'm conflicted

I agreed with Obama about abandoning Afghanistan and he had some reasonable approaches

but in the overall I'm kinda scared of Iran and Russia and have an eerie feeling that we are in 1936 and in the next few years something really bad is gonna happen and I still weigh their respective years of statesman experience against each other and still lean towards McCain

Iran and the economy are kinda irrelevant to me since both of those will be pretty much winding down and taken care of before either one can take office

I think that Iraq really is winding down. and that is the next natural progression of it. Iraq is really basically over and we are in the draw down stage. AND as scared as I am of Iran, Afghanistan is a bordering country and if Iran and Israel go at it, will Afghanistan not back Iran? and whatever happens you KNOW Russia will back who ever we are against. And Russia has wanted Iran ever since we screwed em out of the oil that they were promised in the Potsdam Treaty

to me there is a whole lot more at stake than just letting the neocons/liberals get ahead

Absolutely, but I'm afraid if McCain gets into office, it'll be a never ending war with Iraq and then where will we be. We're wasting resources on a war that shouldn't have even been started. Now with the issues of Iran and Russia coming to head I'm afraid of what will happen.

You cant pull out of Iraq..Hense McCains 100 yr comment. If you pull out how long do you think it will be before Iran shows its scary face more than it is now...

Iraq really is winding down. whoever gets elected will be in charge of how we leave Iraq, so I kinda discount it

having been in Desert Storm and spending a few years working the north and south "no fly zones" I can say from first hand experience that Iraq violated every single condition of the the peace treaty and we were obligated to remove Saddam from office. I don't care anything about yellowcake or WMD those arguments are for the kids in the playground. but it doesn't matter cause that stuff is really pretty much over. we need to be looking ahead and preparing for the next geopolitical crisis and not hangin on to the old ones

EDIT: btw g'mornin deb, nice to see you

Mc Cain is great at making lower -middle class people think he is talking about then as he laughes all the way to his wives bank to buy another house.laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

How about this... since you support Obama, why not give us good solid reasons why. How do you think he will help us? And why are you so convinced he has OUR best interests in mind? Have you read his policies? What exactly will he "change"?

I wonder if Obama is willing to go to war with Russia to defend Poland or the Ukraine?
