It is their choice at the end of the day. All you can do is offer a friendly word of wisdom and try to encourage what they decide to do

Well.....it sounds like he has chosen a career field where he MAY not get shot at....or have to go into a war zone.

Of course the words military and intel shouldn't be used in the same sentence as anyone that's been there Knows!!!

But he's probably chosen one of the only places to get that kind of training and experience.

If he DOES have to go.....at least he'll come back a hero!!! My time was in the VietNam era.

My folks signed for me when I was 16, but of course I didn't enter until I was 17.. With our current state of affairs.. I'd have to say NO. That would cause some grief around the house for sure, but it'd also give him or her some more time to think about it.

This is only fiction, because I have no kids..

Well no fiction here myself I have kids and I would not have done it. My son wanted tattoos at 16 I said no and stuck with it not that it mattered due to after he graduated and had his own job he went and got them anyway. One never knows he wanted his tongue pierced at that time too and I refused till he graduated and had his own job to do it. Well he did not get the tongue pierced. He asked me later why I would not let him? I told him at least that way he had more time to think about the situation.

As far as signing in the military that is a hard choice to make I hate the thought of any young man having to go to Iraq right now. I'm not saying it is a bad thing that you signed for each kid is different.

My nephew is there now and should be home around the first of Oct.

It will be tough for sureflowers

My nephew did this. Went into the Air Force, became a crew chief for F15's ??? Spent time in Okinawa, Turkey, enforcing the 'No Fly Zone" in Iraq. In many ways he is ahead of other men his age, he is 28. BUT.........
Is dealing with PTSD and depression
His "buds" from high school are still trying to get a life, career, etc.

Over all, I support it.
