lol My daughter is mad because I won't let her go to the park by herself... She's 10. A very "mature" 10 year old... however, she's still 10. I just don't feel comfortable letting her go by herself. Am I being "to protective"?? It's about 3 blocks away... I don't think I'm being "mean" lol but she sure does.

i do not think you are being over protective-- it is really hard being a parent now. certain things you can not just say well, i made a mistake

I don't wanna be one of those mothers that doesn't let their kids do anything. However, I just think there's to many weirdos out there to let my kid go wandering around by herself.

I don't wanna be one of those mothers that doesn't let their kids do anything. However, I just think there's to many weirdos out there to let my kid go wandering around by herself. She lets you wonder around on here, and look at all the weirdos you play with...

Well if mine were still small I would be considered mean too for no way would I let them go with out someone with them.

Amen.....we live in a very quiet city and the park where I take my walks became a crime scene last monday due to a rape and beating of a woman....she should NOT go by herself....stick to your guns

I've left her home alone a few times (she doesn't know I always tell my neighbor to keep an eye out) just while I go to the store or run an errand... just to give her some independence. But the whole wandering around by herself just doesn't seem ok to me. Especially after looking up the sex offender list... there's a whole bunch of them in my city. But then again, they're everywhere

Mine thinks I'm mean too, cuz I won't let her go to her random friends houses.... I'm in the same boat... I'd rather be a mean mom than a heartbroken one.

I think it's more mean of me to let her get in a position to get hurt when all I had to do was keep her home, or go with her.

instead of a flat-out 'no', is there a friend that she could go with and allow them a half-hour or so?

well.. my older 2 are 7 and 5 and i just let them walk the 3 blocks to go play at their friends house... alone.... big HUGE difference here... my town population is approximately 250 people.. and i know every one of them.. were a strange person to even drive into our town.. there would be approximately 20 "well wishers" upon them before they could even get to the direction of my children... in your situation.. i would have done exeactly what you did!
