The events of Sept 11, 2001 has touched the lives of just about everyone in one manner or another... Life as we knew it was forever changed.

The events of that day were very impactive for me, my family, my friends.. and my community. Some we lost to death.. others that lived to tell the tale, forever changed... our way of life forever altered.

I swear, I didn't think I would ever stop crying.... or that the nightmares would stop... or that the gaping hole I felt in my being would ever heal.

I share this poem in honor & memory for all.

And God Wept
by Karen March

The planes came,
And took away our innocence.
The towers tumbled down,
As children's blocks to the ground.
And God wept.

People came,
All colors, races and religions.
To help, to save, to mourn, to give.
They came together as one.
And God hoped.

A few survivors,
So many lost and so much pain.
Our lives changed forever.
Down, but not defeated.
And God watched.

A nation reborn,
New strength, goodness and courage.
We will go on, we have learned.
United we stand.
And God smiles.

I didn't know anyone personally who didn't survive but I live and worked (at the time) near the Pentagon. I remember watching it burn, then making our way home through the very silent streets of DC (and it's never quiet in DC) and seeing the flames shoot up from the Pentagon from one of the few open roads out of the city. When I finally made it home, I picked up my son early from school, then picked up my mom from the subway. There were tanks, armed soldiers and dogs at then entrance to the station, and on many street corners. I talked to one of our clients who worked at the building next to the WTC and she walked home to New Jersey, covered in ash. And my 6 year old son building a barricade in his room out of pillows, shoe boxes and stuffed animals to protect him in case any more planes crashed.

It's a day that's indelibly etched into my mind, as it is so many other's.

I wish everyone would stop, for just one minute today, to think about that day and to make just a small effort to be kinder, more respectful and just a little more loving and giving. If more of us did that, perhaps things like 9-11 will stop happening.

I sympathize and empathize with anyone who has ever lost a loved one.

However, instead of remembering the day we were attacked, why not remember September 12th, 2001:

The day when people began to talk to each other
The day when people started to care about each other
The day when people started to help each other
The day when people started to look out for each other
The day when this great nation finally SHOWED UNITY, stood up together and stood up to the world.

You are so right.... except...
much of that started within minutes of 8:45 am EDT on Sept. 11th

My memory & emotions encompass ALL
from the sorrow to the heros that emerged all over the World... I pay tribute to ALL in my heart & prayers

Didnt start within minutes of 8:45EDT in my heart and mind that was the moment of great chaos which lasted for a long time and never should have happened, but did.

On the 12th, when people had a little time to get their bearings, focus and heads together they united. Working together, to find, help and aid others. Finally I saw the UNITY / COMPASSION in my fellow man, I am an ex-NYr and this change in people was AMAZING.

Like I said, just my opinion and I rather see things in a positive light, works for me
