In my years on the Internet in different discussion groups, chats on various sites, I have had the opportunity to meet in gatherings with the people from some sites. In each personal meeting, I was surprised to see that how different personalities were on the Internet versus real life.

Here's what I have seen. The biggest messagers were the most quiet. The ones who were always talking sex were reserved. The ones who were funny online were boring in real life. The ones who were said they were big partiers were wall flowers. I could go on and on, but most everyone I've met from the Internet were dead opposite in real life. The people who were the same in real life as opposed to the Internet were the ones who were not the "big talkers".

Maybe there's a sense that people feel free to allow their alter-egos come out when they are on an Internet site. I don't know.

Excluding those you have met on dates, have you met groups of people from Internet sites and what have you discovered about their personalities?

Hmmmm. Is Lily online? She can tell you I'm just as talky, sex obsessed and outspoken IRL as here. I am who I am and I portray that as accurately as I can. I don't exaggerate or make things up.

I think my personality on here is on a par with who I am in reality. There are things I would NEVER say here that I would say in person, though. And, there are personal thoughts I have that would never make it on here. And some that certainly would as sometimes they come up as issues on the threads and are not issues I have an opportunity to share otherwise in general.

Anyone who has dated me says I am like I come across on threads, emails, IM's, phone calls.

With one exception, everyone I have ever met in person from on line turned out to be a complete whackjob in person, utterly defying their on line personae.

The one exception is the most intelligent person I have ever known, and she is exactly the same person on line as in real life....

See, Lex, the thing is, I make sure everyone knows me and they would already know when they met me that I AM a complete whackjob. I'm very upfront. So I am who I say I am, and that includes the whackjob part of me!!!

I honestly feel like I am exactly the same as I come off on the internet. I have met a few girls from the internet and for the most part, they were pretty much the same except for maybe one or two. I have NEVER met anyone face to face from this site though.

People are on here to much, don't have a life other than the internet .And how they are the exact opposite.

I think I'm the same everywhere I go-be it online or IRL. Have met people from this site, one - total opposite, others were great - no misrepresentation at all.
