Yes, I saw the movie years ago when it first came out. I was lucky enough to catch it again on TV just last week.
What a lucky guy to have escaped from a Turkish prison! I'm not so sure that how it ended was entirely accurate, with his apprent killing of the guard. I don't think he would have been able to get away as easily as he did had he killed the guy. The movie has a great soundtrack, too, especially the scene where he initially makes a run from the police into the crowded streets. The movie shows, too, just how good our criminals have it in American prisons as opposed to a Turkish prison! |

Brad Davis..who played the main character (Billy Hayes) tragically died of AIDS... |

I love this film. The hell that Billy goes through in that prison is truly terrible!

brad davis had a sad childhood. his mother was a prostitute who even slept with him. he had such talent and after rising above all the real horror of his childhood, he dies of aids. i think his girlfriend wrote a book about him and the things he told her.

Brad certainly gave a great performance. Childhood experiences have big influences over acting ability.

I spent a month or two watching prison escape flix. This is a good one, some horrifying scenes. If you like the genre, may I recommend
Le Trou (1960) Papillon (1973) Escape from Alcatraz (1979) Runaway Train (1985) Down by Law (1986) |
