Well...public/private? I'm not voting for Nobama anyway. So, I guess it doesn't matter either way...now. To each his own...maybe the individual should have a choice if his vote is public/private. JMO!

If you have the right to keep it private then are have a choice. you can always make it public. If they make it public you have no choice......

Your right. I think they should include on the voting ballot, additional ck boxes with the option of public/private. JMO (again)

If they want to know how I vote, I'll be glad to tell them.

I think this is coming from the thing about the Unions trying to do away with secret ballots and force members to make a public vote for union leadership. Thats been in the news the last few days

they'll never take away the secret ballot in political elections

Sounds a lot like what former Attorney General Roberto Gonzales and those who worked under him did!

That (and other reasons) is why he is no longer Attorney General!

Bush can sure pick 'em, huh?

Excerpt:

Six attorneys rejected from civil service positions at the Justice Department filed a lawsuit against former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Monica Goodling, and other top officials for allegedly violating their rights by taking politics into consideration in the hiring process.

The right of women to vote in the United States I think belongs on this thread. If you continue reading you will see why I raise this issue here.

You cannot have a discussion about privacy in voting without looking at how voting and the right to vote in this country has change in the last 200 plus years. We are in some ways after all a relatively young nation.

I know there have been and will be issues of land owners, people of color, convicted criminals and others voting that could and have been addressed throughout our history.

I am going to look at this as a woman and ask you to think about women. By the way if you are alive a woman played a part in that.

Now think about those women who, not so long ago defied tradition sometimes also defying their mothers, sisters, fathers, brothers and husbands to demand the right to vote. Think about the first vote they cast. There in the privacy of the voting booth they had a chance to vote their conscience. In privacy they could vote without fear and make their voices heard for the first time.

In some ways we have come far, look at the voices here on this forum male and female, both men and women contributing to the debate. Then take a second to think about things like the no fly list where people veterans, professors, mothers and even small children are placed on lists with no explanation.

Should your vote be private? YES

Why? See above

You may reply here with that happy horse$hit that if you are doing nothing wrong you have nothing to be afraid of. If you really think that you are naive or stupid.

One of the things that makes the United States great is the privileged to step into the booth and vote your conscience without fear. Privacy ensures that vote will not be influenced by fear.

Voting privacy is probably cut out in the bowels of the "Patriot Act."
