It gets the same amount of sh*t on it whether its on the floor for .1 second or 20 seconds so the rule of seconds doesn't really apply. If you really understood what gets on something that falls on the ground you would trash it too!
Lies,lies, lalalalalalalalalal, Lies,lalalalalalalall

So if you licked a pissy toilet for 5 seconds do you think you would not get the same bacteria if licking it for 10 seconds?? Contamination is contamination the instant it makes contact....

Ah, but you can cover more area in the 5 extra seconds, meaning MORE of the contamination. Time Does matter in the equation.

This is like saying two drops of a poison is no different than 5 drops of the same poison because you are just as dead. Although it won't kill you any MORE, it may kill you faster or require more of an antidote to keep from dying.

Am I, or are you not making your point clear? Obviously you are saying that contamination occurs at impact and I agree, which is why in an earlier statement I said that in the study it mattered what the food landed in or on. When it comes to average domestic floor though, you are good with 20 seconds. Stuff will get on the food, but most likely nothing too harmful if you get it within 20 seconds.

This is mostly because of the chance of the food landing in the exact spot of the truly harmful contaminates in an average household is slim and it takes time for some bacteria to get to an area to climb on something. I by no means am saying that nothing will get on the food. You clearly do not want to take that kind of gamble and I will not argue with that. I was merely trying to point out that the chances of getting sick from dropped food is not as high as most believe.

I was wondering why she used that analogy specifically myself. There is such a thing as common sense. Obviously a "pissy" toilet seat is not a location you'd pick food up from no matter how long it's been there.

just fyi myth busters did a show on this and it depends on what type of food it is that you drop...an m&m for example is fine for up to about 30secs..a sliced apple...about 2 seconds...also depends on the environmentbigsmile

also on mythbusters ... the toilet was the cleanest "contamination" ... or was it the worst ...

anyway an employer caught me dropping a cigarette one day on the street ... i picked it up 2 sec after it landed & he asked if i was still going to smoke it...

I replied ... what`s more toxic potential shoe dirt & dog crap ... or 1001 chemicals inside the cigarette ...

he said good point ..

Depends on who I am serving it to...

Kidding! Kidding!

Nah, trash it
I really don't find it appealing to the senses to eat something that I know has been dropped on the floor for any amount of time...
is the food THAT important?
..and if it was, handle it carefully the first time...
if it's a food of multiple porportions, eat what's left that hasn't hit the floor....geez

has anyone considered the scenario that we just cleaned said floor?
