AND for yourself!!! Remember the John Wayne movie where he slapped his son off of a horse for being disrespectful to another man's wife who happened to be an indian??? Called her a squaw???? John Wayne apologized to her and said "sorry mam, just a little bit of an oversight in his upbringing".

Indeed, around the area anyway... like the cool mountains of the north now. Getting too old to sweat AND put up with bad manners!

In my opinion, manners went away when kids started raising having babies. Really how well can a 15 year old teach their son how to be a man?

I, too, am appalled with people's behaviours these days. One guy yawned big nasty "I can see your cavities" yawns at the table, coughing without covering his mouth. And, kept not only bringing up my breasts, but calling them "t*ts". I, too, find spitting disdainful unless they've got dust and they just came back from the Outback! noway noway noway noway

well saidflowerforyou

I teach all my children to have manners and show respect to others

as they say....

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten

Robert Fulghum

* Share everything.

* Play fair.

* Don't hit people.

* Put things back where you found them.

* Clean up your own mess.

* Don't take things that aren't yours.

* Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.

* Wash your hands before you eat.

* Flush.

* Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.

* Live a balanced life--learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

* Take a nap every afternoon.

* When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.

* Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.

* Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup--they all die. So do we.

* And then remember the ****-and-Jane books and the first word you learned--the biggest word of all--LOOK.

But that came about because parents quit being parents?? My sons (22 and 16) behave well and have great manners. But then I managed to raise them rather than letting the tv do it.
And I had kids young, I still have manners.
And my mother was 17 when she had me (in the 60s, like BEFORE it was common place) but she managed to raise us with manners...

And even tho you and your mother were young, you were still disciplined and taught how to behave yourselves. Somewhere along the line, people just stopped. They stopped disciplining their kids, spoiling them ROTTEN, not teaching them to be grateful. Or the other extreme where they just don't give a damn and like you said, let the TV raise them.
