I need advise. I have been with the same company for over 14 years now, 12 of those years in a managerial position of some sort. Today at the unit I was assigned to train at (I am the training coordinator) The unit manager of the store tried to assign me to the register with a dyslexic employee. Now not only does this employee not need to be anywhere near a register but being in it with her would have made me liable for any cash shortages. Put simply I refused. The unit told me that if I didn't that he didn't want me in his store and to go home.....now wth do I do with this situation????

Ok, have a letter drawn up for your employee file stating that she is dyslexic and you will not be responsible for shortages in your draw. (then steal)

Documentation. Like Ted said. If they won't document it for you, start a notebook and write these things down.

sorry to tell you, but dyslexia counts as a disability, and you are not allowed to discriminate, unless you would like a HUGE lawsuit, train her, and make sure that you are somewhere with a good camera shot!! or stand over her shoulder and make sure that she doesnt come up short.

That was the first thing I did file a complaint with corporate human resources. But I actually think it goes much deeper than just this issue. This store has been having daily cash shortages on all shifts for 2 weeks now. Then the unit says he finds the money then it is gone again. But when a safe audit is done where the unit could get busted for being short the money is always there even after he has filed shortage forms with the home office,,,,,

Talk to the employee in question, document everything, and count the drawer any time you touch it.

The overages and shortages can just be due to incompetence or mistakes on accounting procedures there.

Hopefully it's not due to "magic math".

thats when things/numbers magically make sense winking you'd be surprised how many people use that as logic. lol

It would be discrimination not to hire her on that basis. It is not discriminatory to keep her out of the register when her handicap impedes that use.

Is the same person counting this money when its short and then again when it reappears??? If so thats fishy all on its own and its called embezzlement...Thats exactly what it sounds like he is doing...

My thoughts exactly. And by putting an inept employee in a register and making someone else responsible for the money knowing that he will be the one counting it at the end of the shift....call me paranoid but to me that spells set up...

not if part of her job duities would ormaly include this. if everyone else in her position is also register trained, she must be as well.
