I have to agree with Izzie, if its in her job discription, U probably have to at least train her

For 1 she admits to it freely. For 2 everyone in the store at one time or the other has caught her inverting numbers either at the register or when she is pricing tickets.

And she has been trained and retrained on register usuage.

That was the first thing I did file a complaint with corporate human resources. But I actually think it goes much deeper than just this issue. This store has been having daily cash shortages on all shifts for 2 weeks now. Then the unit says he finds the money then it is gone again. But when a safe audit is done where the unit could get busted for being short the money is always there even after he has filed shortage forms with the home office,,,,,

Is the same person counting this money when its short and then again when it reappears??? If so thats fishy all on its own and its called embezzlement...Thats exactly what it sounds like he is doing...
thats funny when i finished reading the op, thats xactly what i thought.!!!

Why does a dyslexic person have such a job?

That is like me working as a forklift operator. I'd kill someone!

You can have different levels of dyslexia. Some are more severe than others, sounds more like to me that she is just careless and uses it as an excuse.

It sounds to me with the shortages and then "found" money that the manager is taking out then replacing his own personal loans from the till.

Maybe he wants a dyslexic person working the register so he can feel free to steal the money without returning it, thereby having his excuse and someone to blame.

It sounds to me like you have a manager that is an embezzler. Call the discrepencies to HR's attention and tie them to what he wants you to do!

I worked retail management for alot of years, and I've seen alot of good managers go down for that kind of thing.

That's what I'm thinking. There are different levels, sure, but if you're so bad off that you can't do you're job, disability or not you shouldn't be keeping that job.

It's like hiring a blind guy to drive a taxi.

I used to be a cashier, and where I worked they kept a log of all the registers that weren't within a $5 range everyday. There were usually two or three people on the registers in a day, and if you showed up on that log so many times they put you under restriction, where you were the only one on that register that day. If it kept happening after that, you were removed from that job completely. It didn't matter what your excuse was. That's the way a responsible, money-handling company should be run, imo

I did all this as soon as I got home today. Informed human resources about the situation.

But I don't think the girl in question is using it as an excuse, outside of mismanaging money, she is a hard worker and good at her job as long as someone audits her tickets and she is kept out of the register.

In the mean while I am "workless" until the issue is resolved one way or the other because his store is where I am slotted to be training for the next 6 weeks.

exactly,, but the problem now is that because people are refusing to hold her accountable for her actions and are instead holding her accountable for her disability, now if she is terminated for this, BAD news!!

sorry to tell you but i was the corprate trainer on EEO, and disabilities, you can look up the law if youd like

as soon as she told you that she was dyslexic everyone should have asked if it would impede her job, and if she said no, document it, and then hold her accountable from that point on, however if she said yes, then within reason the company is responsible to make accomidations for this disability as long as it wont cause undue hardship on the company.

Ohhh, how about if I go work on a farm? I'd be terrible at that too. I have a black thumb and hate to get dirty....laugh

There are loads of places this gal can go, but in areas of money or numbers.... not a good idea.
