I have caught the odd news cast over the lead up to the opening of the 2008 Olympics held in Beijing this time...

and the ludicrous reporting blows my mind..

All this talk about carbon footprints...global warming/cooling...is there in front of our eyes...The massive consumption of natural resources... the insatiable appetite...the intense consumption of everything to sustain a GIANT population...is an obvious example of the f*ck ups of this incredibly short sighted species called humankind!

There is no such thing as BLUE sky in that part of the world...

It's like the elephant in the corner that no-one talks about!

Behind every reporter is a brown blur, with hardly any visiblitiy, whilst they waffle on about air quality!!

FFS!

Is everyone really that stupid???

And that goes without mentioning the incredible damage done to Tibetans, and the gagging put upon media...even the ridiculous media, is gagged.

And no-one does a f*cking thing!

China is sort of going through it's "industrial revolution" (like we did in the '50's.) Back then we had the same sort of environmental issues, only now are we aware of hows it's messing with the planet, a little late.

China pretty much gets away with whatever they want though. They have so much influence over us and the rest of the world that no one is going to get them to crack down on human rights or the environment. They're financing our debt, so they kind of own us at the moment.

Not here Lee, they are discussing it on talk shows quite a bit and with the Minnesotan's that were stabbed by China's version of someone going "postal", much attention is being given to the conditions in China. Television news is reporting on the air quality but not often.flowerforyou

I don't agree that all humans bring death. We are part of this planet and just because some could care less doesn't mean all humans are wasting the Earth's resources.

There has actually been a great deal of media coverage given to the huge pollution problem in Beijing, and China as a whole (albeit mostly in print media).

There has been widespread skepticism of their plan to reduce pollution for the Olympics, which basically consisted of telling half the vehicles in Beijing that they couldn't drive for three weeks, stopping all construction projects, cutting industry, and mostly just hoping the wind blows in the right direction.

China's pollution output is the last thing any sane person should be worried about when it comes to that country.

That's great Steve, I am still unsure how it is the US has uncensored media from China... sounds a little subversive(?)..

And how is it the intense resource consumption and the defilement of the air quality not be of relevance....?

Last time I looked the Earth was still round....and what comes around, goes around.

Ok, how are the asian countries sweeping the weightlifting medals? I mean I would think places like Russian etc that have big people would be dominating.

I think he's referring to their massive political and military power, which are as concerning, if not more concerning, than their contribution to world pollution.

It's not that it's not relevant--it is. It's just not as important in perspective. This is a country that engages in the following:

- Massive suppression of political ideas and free speech via technology and police forces.
- Mass removal of people (and seizure of land) by force to build dams, public projects, and in astounding irony, facilities for the Olympic games.
- Daily execution of political prisoners for the use of organ replacement.
- Unwarranted military action against entire ethnic groups and regions (Tibet, and to a lesser extent, the Mongolian/Muslim populations of the northwest).

And I won't even get into their subversion activities in foreign countries (namely, the US).

Hmmmm....the elephant in the corner will die too, if it has no air to breathe..

Military power is redundant if there is nothing to possess...

think about it... no air... no Earth..

and the sheer volume of resource consumption, and CO levels, as well as all the other pollutants... affects all.

Hope the winds stay Southerly.... and glad I am in the SOUTHERN Hemispere.

I will be interested in hearing just how much censorship IS going on but I don't think we will hear about it until the Olympics are over.
