and they take it out on you...what do you do?

I had this happen, and usually I give them a time out... however apparently that makes me a sociopathic b*tch...

How far do you let people go to disrespect you when THEY have issues?

When it's a female friend I ALWAYS ask..."Are you PMSing?" Luckily, my friends know that is the indicator that they are on 'b*tch mode' and I didn't feel like dealing with it. We have that fun communication going on. Normally when it's a female they understand that.

I've generally discovered that doing the Robot or hitting them in the face with a pie works fairly successfully.

If it's a guy friend (which I have a few more of) I will have a brief chat with them... "So you've decided to take on the role of jerk today why?" Right about then they give me the whole story of their reasons for a bad mood and apologize. I think the most important thing here is as with women is to bring the bad treatment to their attention. I get along well with my friends because that sort of communication is VERY clear. I do the same with my family as well and (believe it or not) I get along great with them too. Clear communication is key.

I think possibly attempting to teach empathy is important when these things happen. Sometimes people aren't aware of their behaviors...

But here is what my friend, the brilliant foresnic psychologist told me:
True sociopaths get defensive and angry when they are confronted with bad behaviors and wrong doing. This is their nature.

I'm a glutton for punishment.

Here are more of his wise words:

" It is my opinion that if a person treats a sociopath with kindness, then that person is foolish because kindness will come back and bite the person who is kind. Remember, a sociopath lives to take advantage of others. "

And more:
"If a sociopath "freaks out" in response to letters, it is merely their response to the truth. People who frequently lie and deceive hate to be confronted in writing because they cannot later lie about what happened or what was said."

Well...my best friend only hangs around with my brother and I when he really needs an ego check. So...if he's in a bad mood and he's all foul and stuff, I just tell hi to go grab a banana ( he kinda looks like a gorilla ) and shut up.

I just look at her and laugh and she looks at me like she could kill me, but then she laughs and all is well:banana:

I usually just let them vent. Once they get it out of there system they realize how they've been acting and apologize. If it continues to happen I just tell them that I'm going to stay away from them until they have dealt with the issues. Once I walk away they usually realize how poorly they've been treating me.

Boy, you got an attitude today or What?
Who pi$$ed in your corn flakes?
WTF is wrong with you to day?
Hey friend, is something going on because you are not yourself today? Something must be going on because you usually don't act like this.......

No, you don't. He has ficticious romances with people. If you talk to him, Lily's ex friend, you will all of a sudden become his girlfriend. I've heard enough about him from her... but still sometimes my mouth just hangs open. It is shocking.
