So they are telling Americans NO but saying that's not what they are saying huh???? They just want to be "seen" as bring anti-drilling but they are. So who's lieing now?

Why Democrats don't want to lower gas prices

Senator lets cat out of the bag on Bloomberg TV show

WASHINGTON – A Democratic senator on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee inadvertently explained why her colleagues have no intention of ending the moratorium on offshore oil drilling or increasing the areas open for exploration and production – no matter how popular the idea might be with gas prices soaring.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV's "Money and Politics" last night, Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., explained Democrats don't want to increase supplies of oil and gasoline because they want to wean Americans off of petroleum products.

Asked point-blank if Democrats in the Senate would consider how increasing the supply of oil would lower the prices that are pinching U.S. consumers, Cantwell replied: "Oh, we definitely want to move beyond petroleum. And so there will be a supply side offered by the Democrats and it will include everything from battery technology to making sure that we have good home domestic supply, and looking, as I said about moving faster on those kind of things like wind and solar that can help us with our high cost of natural gas."

In other words, no.

The moratorium was first enacted by Bush sr. The time when we should have been doing something instead of waiting until its to late!!!!!!

if people spent the same amount of time in promoting positive responses and offering positive solutions, instead of just stirring the negative pot - we would all get along so much better

America is sitting on top of a super massive 200 billion barrel Oil Field that could potentially make America Energy Independent and until now has largely gone unnoticed. Thanks to new technology the Bakken Formation in North Dakota could boost America’s Oil reserves by an incredible 10 times, giving western economies the trump card against OPEC’s short squeeze on oil supply and making Iranian and Venezuelan threats of disrupted supply irrelevant.

In the next 30 days the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) will release a new report giving an accurate resource assessment of the Bakken Oil Formation that covers North Dakota and portions of South Dakota and Montana. With new horizontal drilling technology it is believed that from 175 to 500 billion barrels of recoverable oil are held in this 200,000 square mile reserve that was initially discovered in 1951. The USGS did an initial study back in 1999 that estimated 400 billion recoverable barrels were present but with prices bottoming out at $10 a barrel back then the report was dismissed because of the higher cost of horizontal drilling techniques that would be needed, estimated at $20-$40 a barrel.

It was not until 2007, when EOG Resources of Texas started a frenzy when they drilled a single well in Parshal N.D. that is expected to yield 700,000 barrels of oil that real excitement and money started to flow in North Dakota. Marathon Oil is investing $1.5 billion and drilling 300 new wells in what is expected to be one of the greatest booms in Oil discovery since Oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia in 1938.

The US imported about 14 million barrels of Oil per day in 2007 , which means US consumers sent about $340 Billion Dollars over seas building palaces in Dubai and propping up unfriendly regimes around the World, if 200 billion barrels of oil at $90 a barrel are recovered in the high plains the added wealth to the US economy would be $18 Trillion Dollars which would go a long way in stabilizing the US trade deficit and could cut the cost of oil in half in the long run.

This is a perfectly legal spot to drill.
It requires no lifting of moratoriums, or new offshore oil drilling.
Or killing of Marine life!

Problem is Exxon has no rights to this oil!!!
None.
N Dakota Oil Resources owns it.
12,000 new jobs and not a one for Exxon, Shell, BP, etc.

Great. Now if only we had enough refineries to process all this extra oil we'll be drilling...

Look Jobs,,,,

Eagle Oil, N Western Industries, etc.
Apply on line..... Haven't seen a job with Exxon yet!
Let me know if you do,,,

Can you say competition?
I wonder why Bush failed to mention this when he asked for the moratorium to be lifted?

Could it be he has no stock options??

N Dakota and Montana own this and they are going to operate it without the oil giants involvment!
All small, mostly local companies.
I'll bet they build their own refineries too.

Sure. There's plenty of evidence out there. If you ignore all the blame for the oil prices last year...

The problem is that the oil companies have established ties with Saudi and other countries revolving around oil and if we start drilling here those deals go cold, not benefiting the oil companies anymore.

We DO need to put MUCH more effort into alternatives to oil. So really there was nothing wrong with what the senator said at all.

I have a question. The Republican were in control of Congress for 12 yrs and they did nothing about drilling for oil or lifting the ban. Why are they complaining that the Democrats want higher gas prices. When they could have been drilling and have the oil by now? Both parties need to look to the future without oil.

Why do I feel that it isn't really the government in control of the situation on oil and it is actually the bankers and private contractors who will have the say in the future about how oil will be distributed?

Could I be so far fetched off on this conclusion??
