Dream Theater not metal? They aren't traditional sure, but they certainly fit into one of several metal subgenres; neo-progressive metal and power metal are but two that come to mind.

Anyways-

Tool
Saviour Machine
Pain of Salvation
Metallica
Between the Buried and Me

There's quite a few others as well, but the above should give you guys the general idea. :)

I dunno about them fitting into the power metal sub. Neo Progressive I will agree with, but I am pretty big into power metal and I just don't see Dream Theater fitting into that genre.

Just my opinion of course. ;-)

neo-progressive, definatly and they are very talented musicians. i'm not inplying otherwise. plz don't take this as an attack on the band or against u, it's not.

that being said, my gauge on heavy "power" metal...

if u hear it on anything other than headbangers ball (adam curry era) or some other show like it, it's not heavy metal. how many times have u heard "the last in line", "run to the hills" or "sabbath bloody sabath" on the raido? once, maybe? u never heard metallica on the raido until one came out and look what happened to them ill

and as justa said "just my opinion"

Love Metal. Here is my list, starting with the best band to have ever come out of Seattle.....

Queensryche- Saw you guys mentioning Empire, which was a good CD. But it doesn't hold a candle to Operation Mindcrime. Always loved their sound, especially the way they used their dual guitars (Much like Maiden and Stryper did).

Iron Maiden- Love Bruce ****inson's voice.

Guns N' Roses- Slash used to scare the s*it out of me.laugh

WASP- Blackie Lawless ruled!

Poison- Man, they had some hot chicks in their videos.

Cinderella- Don't know what you got (Til it's gone) is still da s*it.

Slayer- Reign in Blood is in my all time top 10 albums list.

KISS- Just a favorite. Gene Simmons will always be an ICON to me.

Stryper- Yes, I loved the Christian rockers.
