The K7 part has nothing to do with what kind of hard drive you have. The AMD K7 is the main CPU ( processor ). That is the part of your computer that actually does the work. The hard drive is where the data gets stored.

To me it sounds like your computer is over heating and shutting down.

If you have it checked, make sure they clean off the processor fan. It could be covered with dust ( and it doesn't matter how clean you keep your house, they do get dusty ) and be causing the processor to get too hot.

If that has happened too many times, it may have done damage to the processor, which is when you would be looking for an AMD K7.

For hard drives, it's mainly Western Digital or Seagate...there are a couple of other brands out there, but those are the main two as far as I know.

AMD K7 will tell Best Buy the type of processor and the age of your machine. Yes this info helps. My hard drive was only 40 dollars on sale last year. I got a 160 GB which is plenty big enough for your machine.
Go To START...Run...and then type in dxdiag and hit enter.
This will tell you what Operating System you have. It should be Windows 98 or XP

i just cleaned fan about a month ago...was dusty..ill try it again tomorrow as well.but this is only the 2nd time its happened.its gives me a bubble msg at bottom of screen saying corrupt file then it auto goes into chkdsk then nothing..

i have xp pro on here...bit i think my ex patched it on here...i have no disc for it..

If you have a portable house fan, set it in front of the computer and direct it into the front of the computer while you are on here till you get it fixed. Fans do go bad. They could be only turning half speed. If you overheat the processor it will damage it.
The corrupt file message could mean you have a virus also.
Make sure and run all your virus scans that you have.
Your machine may be ok if its just a corrupt file.
Write down EXACTLY what the corrupt file message is so you can tell the experts what the problem is.

Make sure that your virus scanner is updated so it can catch the latest bugs. A virus can wreak havoc on a computer. If you need good, free virus protection..google the AVG virus protection. Just don't use more than one of these at a time because they fight each other and slow down your machine
