Suppose that all traces of organized religion were instantly wiped from human knowledge. What would happen afterwards?

A. Religion would return to the world as it is now

B. New religions/religious groups would take shape

C. Organized religion would not return at all

Now please remeber A,B,C are the 3(three) picks. Not trying to stir anyone up on this either. This is question in one of my classes, I thought it was interesting.

I would have to go with B. People have always since the beginning of time tried to search for some type of God. Even before "organized religion"

D. CULTS would spring up and people would join.

That couldn't happen.

A cult is a subsect of a religion with different views on the religions beliefs. If no religions existed, then there couldn't be cults.

If cults were to appear... than you would have to agree with "B" that new religions would surface

What formal organized religion was Heavens Gate Cult a subsect of?

Though it doesn't fit into "traditional" religions... it is still organized religion, as any cult is.

Christianity.

You can see that from their website (yes, they still exist)

http://www.heavensgate.com/book/1-2.htm

This "return" requires that I prepare to lay down my borrowed human body in order to take up, or reenter, my body (biological) belonging to the Kingdom of God (as I did approximately 2000 years ago, as Jesus, when I laid down the human body that was about 33 years old in order to reenter my body belonging to the Kingdom of Heaven).

"spidercmb" a religion is simply a cult that been approved by the government in which it is practice ...

if the world were to be wiped out by a nuclear weapon those that survived would start a cult and worship that nuclear weapon as being God..for it is unseen and incomprehensible to the human senses ..even through unseen those in this cult would proclaim that the nuclear weapon talked to them and gave forth laws that all should follow ..since they would be in power and the only government the cult automatically becomes a religion ...all that do not follow the religion will be killed by those in the cult in fear the nuclear weapon would become angry and explode again

That's a specious comment. By that measure, Islma, Judaism, Hinduism, Shikism, etc are all cults within the US. A cult could be a small, extreme offshoot of a religion.

haven't you notice that those religions you named are all just considered to be cults within the USA ...the money says in God we trust ..not in Yahweh or Allah we trust

also a small extreme offshoot from a religion is called a splinter sect not a cult ...one person does not a religion make...first you have find and convince others to religiously believe what you believe and that is a cult

************ B *************

... is the only possible answer.

'C' is totally unthinkable: half of humanity needs to control, and the other half insists on being controlled. RELIGION IS A HUMAN NECESSITY, AND A HUMAN CREATION!!!

As for 'A', if ...
'... all trace(s) of organized religion were instantly wiped from human knowledge...',
... then all current religious myths, icons, dogmas, etc., which are the current foundations of all existing religions, would be wiped in the process.

Back to 'B' :
Only feasible outcome. New mythologies, legends, icons, would instantly be 'invented' and made-up by the contolling half, to feed the, 'need to be controlled', other half.

And before anyone fires back at the messenger, I will readily admit to you all, that I am part of the human race. I just won't admit yet which 'half' I belong to!!!

That was funny Zeus.

There does seem to be a lot of truth in what you say there. Except, as with all things, there are exceptions. bigsmile

I'm quite certain that there are many people who will settle for neither. I would certainly place myself in that group. I have no need to control or be controlled.

So maybe I'm not human? glasses

i say he has and will continue to do so ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

it is historically shown that those who believe themselves to be most perfect are those shown to be least perfect. That includes me also.

Definately B.

You only wiped it from human knowledge.

You forgot to wipe the religious concept from the alien overlords who brought it to us to begin with.

They would set it up again, with improvements.
