Topic: The non-existence of time ~ a puzzle

there are many theories which mathematically hypothesize higher dimensions for our existence. this is a very deep question. in physics, timelessness plays a crucial role and the finding of timeless conserved quantities is essential in understanding every aspect of our world. this is done within the spacetime construct of 4 dimensions currently of prime importance but can be generalized to higher dimensions. common everyday examples are the conservation of energy and the conservation of momentum. conserved quantities exist out of time and reflect symmetries in our world as first proven by Emmy Noether. of course any number of additional things may exist outside of time - eg. IMAGINATION - LOVE - but also many everyday things and actions and the laws of physics pertaining to them.

hmmm?? - let me ask you this then, if mankind or other intelligent life forms did not exist anywhere within the unniverse would time then exist? Yes, it would. You are talking about measurements of time. If mankind didn't exist, then there would be nobody to measure time, but time would exist. Just like a mile high mountain exists even if no humans exist. Time is a dimension in space. This is true. As long as the space-time environment exists, there will be events in time. The earth will still revolve around the sun. There may be dumb animals observing it, but we certainly would not be observing it. Some believe (as do I) that the planet itself is conscious and alive. Would you count the planet itself as an intelligent life form? What about non-human observers? Spirits? Do they count as intelligent life forms? JB if they have the sense to know what time is then anything and everything is what i mean. so if none of that exist what purpose does time serve? what purpose does "ANYTHING" serve in that case? I see your point. I don't imagine a dinosaur would have any sense of time or be wearing a watch. LOL But the movement of the planet and the passing of days would certainly have an effect upon the animals. But if higher intelligent (time traveling) beings, such as gods or angels or aliens or what ever, or recorders of events, did not exit, then time would really be irrelevant and un-thought about, hence somewhat non-existent. But that is a big if and not really worth contemplating I think. LOL JB

More than we already know? More than we think we know? Is there not always more to be known? There are no complicated matters if they are known. Complicated is an opinion of the unknown. Most people tell me that painting a portrait is complicated. To me, it is very simple, simply because I know how. One simple step after another. JB

More than we already know? More than we think we know? Is there not always more to be known? There are no complicated matters if they are known. Complicated is an opinion of the unknown. Most people tell me that painting a portrait is complicated. To me, it is very simple, simply because I know how. One simple step after another. JB there is nothing to be known here but ourselves.

I think the difference between a simple thing and a complicated thing is more defined by the individual than society then any other concept with which we deal. The difference between simple and complicated is totally dependent on how each person weighs the importance of the idea and their familiarity with the subject. spreid
