Tribal council historically forbids it.......that's actually kind of brutal considering the alcoholism problems within the tribe.

My kind of cutting humorlaugh that only a Hopi or other Navajo could get away with.noway

Oh yeah I got a surreal education. As you can guess I'm traveler. And I run with the traveler mark on my saddle blanket on my motorcycle.

Yeah you got it. It gets funnier. I'm running with navajo colors. So the hopi give me a hard time and make me a red saddle blanket. I looked at them and said "Red? And blue? You guys are funny! You're worse than inner city gangs! Red and blue? What do you think you are? The bloods and the crips?" everyone laughs.

But the history and the religion are informative. The youth don't get into it. But I could sit all day listening to tribal elders tell stories. Especially some of the ones in their 90s that still have all their capacities. I'm blessed.

Had a Hopi friend invite me to his place on the res to see his shop where he hand crafted pipes.

He stopped at the gate and said, "you can't pass into the res unless you have deep understanding of what it means for a white to journey into the Hopi realm."

I respectfully asked, "why? what does it mean?

He said, "I have no fvcken idea!". Punched it, let out a war cry, and started laughing at his own joke.

EDIT: Heard some amazing stories as well........agreed.

My cousin and I were in laughlin nevada on labor day weekend 2001. We were trying to get into the don laughlins casino so we could go to the losers club but could not for the life of us find a place to park because all the rich preppy kids from LA with mommy and daddies money were there bringing their jet skis and jet skiing on the turd infested colorado river. They were dropping their trailers full of jet skis in parking lots of the casinos hogging up all the parking spots when the ***** little punks were not even staying at the casinos. Soooooo......

to be with, and learn from the greatest and most humble minds of the world that really want to get things done, to change our present way of thinking over-all, and i don't mean our present gov't at all....then put it into action.winking

So I told my cousin we should just pull one of those trailers out full of jetskis and just push it in the street and take a parking spot. He said oh no that's a crime and its against my religion. I said its not against mine to take what's legally ours because we are paying customers and to pull over. He did and I yanked one of those trailers full of jetskis out of a parking spot and pushed it into the street. And my cousin parked and we ran for the doors. By the time we got to the doors we turned to see the police and a towtruck towing the trailer full of jetskis. I said to my cousin "Aw heck- what's a little more of mommy and daddies disposable income!" ha ha ha ha!
