Ever had to knock on wood? No, that's not the question. How did you make it out of the tragedy, or deal with the tragedy?

Yes, I was in a car accident without a seatbelt (yes I know very stupid, I now know better). I hit so hard the engine was in the dashboard and I flew out of my seat into the windshield. I only ended up with a few cuts and bruises. Needless to say, I always wear a seatbelt. I still can't believe I walked away from that accident alive.

yes...i tried to give cpr to my best friend last yr right after xmas over the phone w/the 911 lady...it didn't work..i laid in bed w/him til the coroner made me leave, the i cried in bed the next day...i just could not get up...i have kids which are old enough to take care of themselves...but i made myself get up and go on and back to work...his b-day was this wk...i still can't believe he's gone...i think about him all the time...but in a good way...even though i'm tearing up now...i usually laugh when i think of him...his huge smile and heart...and always trying to get in my pants...lol

I don't know how we deal with it.

..my brother and I watched our mom die of lung & bone cancer...we were all clueless that she was even sick....in 5 months she was gone...it's hard to deal with for a long time..maybe forever..I don't think you ever get over it

mmm...everyone deals with things in their own ways. Me personally...I've learned to be able to just shrug it off and move on. Deal with current issue at hand one minute at a time and not dwell on it...dwelling solves/does/helps nothing/no one so it's not productive. That's not to say when it gets quiet and I lay in bed I don't go through a few mood swings on it here and there...but, I never allow those moments to last long and I always deal with them privately.

I have had 5 people in my life commit suicide, none of them family, but one was my roommate.

I had a man that I served with in the army get hit by a rocket propelled grenade, and he ended up dying.

I had a co-worker get stabbed numerous times at work (WE were both Deputies). I held a sheet on his chest as he was being transported to the hospital. Another time, I was too late to keep a really good friend from getting severly beaten.
