Freedom
Freedom for my daughter, meant saying 'bye to Dad. The love they blessed each other without, she would not have had. Music and the special times without just mom. Only things you learn and cherish when they're gone. Ice cream in the middle of the night, when I was sleeping. Talking of the books they read and whether they were keeping, up with Psalms and Proverbs, our family's same page. Even in the midst of all the pain and rage. The first time that he held her, so gentle and so loving. Every time she needed only his attention. So wise, my joyous, Hannah. She let him leave that day. She helped me bathe his body We dressed him for his grave. His suit, his tie, and treats In his pocket, as was normal. He wore the hat she'd always known, she kissed him , Oh, so softly. She had to say good bye, only to his body. She stood so sad, defeated, this living he had fought for. It has only been these three years. Her lifetime, she is missing, seeing Grampy love her boys, knowing, feeling freedom. She looks into his eyes, hers, reflected image. Dries her tears and hugs her boys, and knows that he is with them. Her birthday has such memories, imprinted in her soul. Love that only he could gift, her wisdom, gift unfolds. Raine Les 7/3/2008 |
