Republican strategists trying to game Sen. Barack Obama's choice for a running mate are focusing more and more on the possibility that he might pick former House Majority Leader **** Gephardt, a friend of labor and blue-collar workers. "Gephardt is the one we're most afraid of," said a key GOP strategist and Bush ally.

Gephardt has run for the presidency and scored well among the types of voters Obama is trying to reach out to--lower and middle-class workers, laborers, and minorities. Another strategist said that Gephardt presents a friendly face of liberalism that would be hard to attack. He also has a deep well of support among House Democrats, who they believe would rally around an Obama-Gephardt ticket, especially the allies of Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Former Gephardt aides say that while they would like to see their former boss on the ticket, it is unlikely because of his recent lobbying work. In a new poll from the marketing firm Affinnova, Gephardt ranks high on the favorability rating, just second among those polled behind Colin Powell as the choice for Obama's running mate.

This announcement on the Yahoo page was a pleasant surprise.

Richard Gephardt is known in Missouri for having character and integrity. He has done some good things for St. Louis and Missouri.

Yes, but the Republicans would rag Obama as a hypocrite if he picks a lobbyist!
I didnt even know Powell was be considered. He's a Republican you know!
Of course Obama has been looking across Party lines.

Kathleen Sebelius, from Kansas would make a good choice but it could turn the Hillary supporters off even more! They'd wonder why he chose a woman and it wasnt Hillary!

I think Webb will be the man, but that may just be wishful thinking on my part!

In a confrontation with Bush shortly after switching parties!
Webb said he almost slugged Bush! LMAO!!!

On November 28, 2006, at a White House reception for those newly elected to Congress, Webb declined to stand in the line to have his picture taken with the president, whom Webb often criticized during the campaign. The president approached Webb later and asked him, "How's your boy?", referring to Webb's son, a Marine serving in Iraq. According to Congressman Jim Moran of Virginia, aides warned the President to be "extra sensitive about talking to Webb about his son, since Webb's son had had a recent brush with death in Iraq."[28] Webb replied "I'd like to get them out of Iraq, Mr. President." Bush responded, "That's not what I asked you. How's your boy?" Webb responded, "That's between me and my boy, Mr. President." The Hill cited an anonymous source who claimed that Webb was so angered by the exchange that he confessed he was tempted to "slug" the president, but of course did not.[29] Webb later remarked in an interview, "I'm not particularly interested in having a picture of me and George W. Bush on my wall."[30]

This article forgets one MAJOR factor, Gephardt LOST winning the nomination. His own democratic party did not want him to run for the presidency. Now, what does that tell you?

And, if the Republicans are afraid of Gephardt - it sure surprises all of us! Gephardt is an absoulte total wimp! I would advise the democratic party to not dig up old cadavers.

What is that guy's name that was in the same 'prison camp' that Mccain was in? He was like one of the most decorated soldiers of Vietnam or something. I remembering hearing him on TV talk about Mccain, but I cannot remember his name.

I remember checking out multiple pages on him, he had so many medals and such.
