Should homophobia and rascism be completely illegal with serious penalties ? i thought hate crimes were punished severely though having a phobia shouldn't be a crime unless you kill or maim someone because of it. |

Should homophobia and rascism be completely illegal with serious penalties ? If they hurt someone b/c of it but it should fit the crime.. other than that everyone is entitled to their opinion whether it is ignorant or not... |

Should homophobia and rascism be completely illegal with serious penalties ? You cannot govern the way people feel, only the violence that may result from the way people feel |

No, but I do not think it is okay either.
Homophobia is a fear. Though people cannot correctly handle how they deal with this fear of theirs, that would be like turning someone in for displaying a bias towards their taste in women. It is okay for them to do that. As far as racism goes, it is going to happen. Especially in America, because we are a huge melting pot, and sometimes it takes people awhile before they can adjust. Again, not saying it is ok, but it is going to happen. One funny thing about stereotypes or racial comments people make that I recently just came to realize is.... There is some truth to it. If one race said another race ate babies, well.... It wouldn't bother anyone because we all know it is not true. Again, going back to my theory of being in a country where it is looked upon "Good" to sugar coat things and not be real with your feelings, because it seems like the "Right" thing to do. When in fact we are lying. People are too sensitive, when we should look upon things and laugh about it. NO race is perfect. We can look into our stereotypes and flaws and laugh about it. Laughter is what brings us together. Look at how comedians have many different skin color attending their shows. Times are changing because people learn that putting things in the open, with some truth behind it, and laughing brings us all together. So no, I do not believe there should be a punishment from it other than being chastised by people who feel differently. Word(s) for Word(s). |

Should homophobia and rascism be completely illegal with serious penalties ? If it harms others, it already is illegal with serious consequences. Depending on where you live, it is more serious than other areas. I think these are two of the worse human sins against each other out there that I have seen. |

For the record, in my city. I have had all kinds of racial bias experiences. Most women like caucasian men preferably, and there is nothing wrong with that. That could be looked upon as "racism", and I would hate to see anyone be chastised or made to pay penalty, just because of their choices. I am content with that and sure it means "Go where the grass is greener". No harm done.

Nope... See, we're already in a big conundrum because the State and Federal government tries to legislate moral issues that have no bearing on anyone other than the people who perform the acts that some of us find abhorrent.
Racism and Homophobia in the minds of most sane, evolved and normal people is abhorrent. But trying to outlaw it would be tantamount to trying to outlaw abortion, gay marriages or interracial marriage. The US was founded on the principles of individual liberties. Those freedoms mean that you can hate me and call me every slur in the book until your lungs hurt and you cry from the rage. But beyond that, you can't touch me without ramifications. And vice versa. That, my friends is the true meaning of liberty. Personally, I've been black for oh... some... 34 years now? And no one's stereotypes, hatred, rage or distrust has ever cost me a second of sleep. Just live your life above the bulls**t, and let the nimrods do their thing. Hell, the way I see it, the world needs stupid people. Who else is gonna cut my lawn? |
