why is being a martyr in any religion a good thing and do you get to heaven faster if you die for your beliefs?Many of the Catholic saints are martyrs so I was just wondering.

Being Catholic, your question is easy, Martyrs are individuals that MUST die(supposedly god put them here for that reason, that IS their entire purpose for being...to die for the faith), to keep the faith "moving" whether they are the paladins of the crusades, or a priest who gives his life to protect the rest of the clergy, they are dying to "promote god, and save his followers. And yes...kind of like dogs...ALL martyrs go to heaven.

The shooter asked her if she believe in God and when she said yes he shot her. She would be considered a martyr. |

why didn't they have a choice? They made the choice to include Jesus in their lives although they knew it would cost them their lives. And they stood firm and did not reject their beliefs even though they were facing unspeakable horrors. They had no choice considering that at the time of the orignal martyrs it was illegal to be a Christian.
