Well okay maybe not the WWE is a sport but Wrestling is.

I mean that's like me asking if UFC is a sport or MMA or hell Basketball or football etc etc.

There all sports in there own ways.

for your entertainment

it is just has a predetermined ending

The whole story lines and match winners are pure BS but the actual psychical contact in the ring is real. It takes a lot of strength and stamina to run around the ring and lift the other person in the air. And yeah some of the moves are hokey too (the tombstone) O_O

Then I guess that means that football and baseball are not sports. And to the original topic starter... Seriously, with gas prices the way they are, and with everything else going on in the world, you're going to blow a gasket because people post WWE topics in the sports board? Just sayin.

People need to stop equating wrestling with WWE and just WWE. There is more to wrestling than WWE folks!

The most common response I get when I identify myself as a wrestling fan to a non-wrestling fan is this: "Oh, so like that WWE stuff."

My response to that is, "Ummmm...no."

Then they say, "Oh, so you mean MMA."

what slaphead frustrated

The fact of the matter is this: Wrestling is a sport. Wrestlers are paid athletes. Athletes that make sacrifices. Athletes that suffer injuries, are frequently forced to work through those injuries over a long period of time and endure long painful retirements as a result.

I understand the mindset of the average joe who believes wrestling is not a sport. Honestly, so much of what WWE is today is not a sport in the least...however, every time a wrestler gets in the ring for a match, even a 5-minute match, he is risking life and limb just as much as a football player or boxer, arguably even more so.

Watch Samoa Joe vs Kurt Angle at TNA Lockdown, taking into account the brutality and realism of the match and tell me wrestling is not a sport.

Watch anything Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling NOAH, Dragon Gate, et al, and tell me it's not a sport.spock

When you think about it, all sports are sports entertainment on some level, in that their purpose is to entertain large crowds of people.

Think about how much other sports have borrowed from wrestling. What sticks out in my mind is entrance music. Wrestling was the first sport to do this. Other sports, ie basketball and boxing, have seen the popularity that has with fans and adopted it.

You might say wrestling does the best job of entertaining its fans, jmo.

Timing, agility, strength, stamina...

these are all a part of the sports angle.

The drama, the chattering, that is NOT sports.

One could argue that the drama and chattering is part of what makes wrestling unique as a sport.

Of course, too much of both obviously detracts from wrestling as a sport.

Give me the drama of a good, well-worked match over the drama of a good storyline any day.

Well, collegiate and amateur wrestling is NOTHING like the WWE. Or any of the other networks out there.
