Listen... if you want to find out how far we are into communism just look at the steps coming from the communist manifesto...see any similarities?
http://www.anu.edu.au/polsci/marx/classics/manifesto.html What does this accusation reduce itself to? The history of all past society has consisted in the development of class antagonisms, antagonisms that assumed different forms at different epochs. But whatever form they may have taken, one fact is common to all past ages, viz., the exploitation of one part of society by the other. No wonder, then, that the social consciousness of past ages, despite all the multiplicity and variety it displays, moves within certain common forms, or general ideas, which cannot completely vanish except with the total disappearance of class antagonisms. The communist revolution is the most radical rupture with traditional relations; no wonder that its development involved the most radical rupture with traditional ideas. But let us have done with the bourgeois objections to communism. We have seen above that the first step in the revolution by the working class is to raise the proletariat to the position of ruling class to win the battle of democracy. The proletariat will use its political supremacy to wrest, by degree, all capital from the bourgeoisie, to centralize all instruments of production in the hands of the state, i.e., of the proletariat organized as the ruling class; and to increase the total productive forces as rapidly as possible. Of course, in the beginning, this cannot be effected except by means of despotic inroads on the rights of property, and on the conditions of bourgeois production; by means of measures, therefore, which appear economically insufficient and untenable, but which, in the course of the movement, outstrip themselves, necessitate further inroads upon the old social order, and are unavoidable as a means of entirely revolutionizing the mode of production. These measures will, of course, be different in different countries. Nevertheless, in most advanced countries, the following will be pretty generally applicable. 1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes. 2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax. 3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance. 4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels. 5. Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly. 6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the state. 7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan. 8. Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture. 9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country. 10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc. When, in the course of development, class distinctions have disappeared, and all production has been concentrated in the hands of a vast association of the whole nation, the public power will lose its political character. Political power, properly so called, is merely the organized power of one class for oppressing another. If the proletariat during its contest with the bourgeoisie is compelled, by the force of circumstances, to organize itself as a class; if, by means of a revolution, it makes itself the ruling class, and, as such, sweeps away by force the old conditions of production, then it will, along with these conditions, have swept away the conditions for the existence of class antagonisms and of classes generally, and will thereby have abolished its own supremacy as a class. In place of the old bourgeois society, with its classes and class antagonisms, we shall have an association in which the free development of each is the condition for the free development of all. |

Ridiculous.
Cite some examples of how we are a more communistic nation and I want specifics. The only curtailing of freedoms has been by the Bush Administration. Did we ever have to be searched (body searches, shoe searches, etc...), taken out of line, or told we couldn't bring little containers of shampoo or other liquids into an airport before Bush got into office? I was in Colorado Springs when peaceful war protesters were tear gassed along with their children and the Denver police was taking photographs of their license plates. Does anyone remember these things happening before Bush got into office? Similar things happened under Nixon in the 60s. Oh, yeah, another Republican President who tried to take away our freedoms. |

It's always the Republicans that want to legislate morality, come into your bedroom to tell you who you can sleep with or find out who you're talking to through wiretaps or other means.
Why is that? |

I gotta laugh when people confuse Communism with Fascism as applies to the the Bush administration.
Bush is a Fascist..Canada is Communist..ok not quite but it's getting scarier all the time. |

I have NEVER bashed the US, I've bashed Bush every chance I got but I have never bashed the states. Hell, I love it there, been all over it, lived in MN for about 4 months and visit every chance I get. Going to MA in August.
Besides, I should get partial credit to live there for living next door to Detroit for almost 25 years |

Communism as an idea is perfect.
Equality ... what a wonderful idea. Reality - hell on earth!! lol I had this debate with a friend a couple of nights ago. The only true communist state is the ant colonies. They are truly equal. Even the Queen contributes to the colony in equal amounts. Maybe we should all become ants ... |

I understand what it is and why people are against it
I merely like to question peoples assumptions I like to ask them why they feel the way they do |

Yep, the only problem with Communism is it requires people. The weak link in any type of gov't.
Because Communism is the purest form of government, it's also the most easy to corrupt. Go figure. But then again, in life, we need a little gov't and a little luck, but you're a fool if you trust in either |

It's always the Republicans that want to legislate morality, come into your bedroom to tell you who you can sleep with or find out who you're talking to through wiretaps or other means. Why is that? Because Republicans are for moral values! Plain and simple. But I must add, conservative Democrats feel the same way! A conservative democrat attorney I worked for recently said "I am sick of all this 'if it feels good do it' that is going on. But, please give me specifics, like YOU demanded in an earlier post in this thread "It's always the Republicans that want to legislate morality, come into your bedroom to tell you who you can sleep with or find out who you're talking to through wiretaps or other means." Hmmm, maybe it is just the Independents and left wing liberal democrats that feel like you do. The morality in this country has been going down for decades, starting in the 60's, the results are these teenage pregnancies, adultry, child molesters, pornography, abortions, bashing of our country and government and Christians, and on and on and on. mnhiker, unless you are talking to the terrorists, nobody caes about your little bitty telephone calls. Oh, how the Independents take things out of context and twist and turn. Lindyy |

Did you know that, if you read more of the Communist Manifesto, that that is where we get the phrase "Political correctness"?
I never use that phrase. I will not succumb to anything reflecting communism. Nope, not me. Lindyy |
