Awww it has been determined that WOMEN have more common sense then MEN do!

When dealing with lightning survey shows that 85% of MEN are more likely to be struck by lighting then WOMEN.

Why …….cause WOMEN tend to go in doors and even try to get the men to go in as well. But…………..do they noooooooooo instead they want to hit that last golf ball, mow the last strip of grass, finish working on there vehicle ect……………

I was listening to this on the way to work this morning on the radio station.

Ohhh and just a heads up we have all heard it some of us believe it some do not.

NEVER TAKE A SHOWER WHEN IT IS LIGHTNING!!!

TRUTH or MYTH?

Awww it is the truth stay out of the shower when it is lightning do you realize that lighting can come through the plumbing and strike!!

Hey had heard this but never thought to much or it shshs I’m inside how would it get me?

Do you know of any cases of others being struck by lightning?

I am a golfer and will golf in the rain but first hint of lightning and I am out of there!!! 2 golfers got struck here 3 years ago and they both got lucky and lived through it!! And it is true about the shower, lighting can hit your water service pipe and follow it into your house, stay AWAY from plumbing during storms!!!

I know I go back and correct my mistakes when I make them.

Yes, the fact is true. No myths about taking showers during

thunderstorms. I won't get on a phone unless it's chordless

either.

I wouldn't want to try it and find out personally. frown

There are alot of myths about lightning. the plumbing myth is true! Especially in older homes with steel or brass pipes. its harder to do with PVC pipe but the minerals from long standing water soak the pvc and eventually make it conductive. So if you have a well you stand a better chance of this happening because the distance and amount of pipe is alot shorter than on a city system. Althouh the well is grounded stray voltage can make it to the sink or bath tub. Anyone who has a well and had to replace a hot water heater after a storm was probably a victim of this.

I have 1 hit and 2 near missesohwell

The hit was while doing laundry in my laundry room. It was storming really bad and all of a sudden I heard this really loud whistling sound getting closer and closer then **BOOM** it felt like my feet lifted up off the floor and at same time this GIANT hand ontop of my head pushing me into the floor. SCARY and WEIRD sensation! I didn't have a burn on me so some say I wasn't actually hit...just really close to a strike..;possibly it struck a power pole nearby the laundry room. But let me tell you...lightening is nothing to play around with! noway noway noway

I've heard about it coming through the oven too.

Several years ago, my mom had that experience. It was a gas

range and a bolt of lightning came out of the little switch

where you turned the oven light on and she said it was like a

ball bouncing across the kitchen floor. Scared her to death.

I suffered a lightning strike here at my plant about 5 years ago. The lightning passed through a CB antenna and completely disintegrated 8 inches of the antenna then traveled into the ground. It blew out 18 load cells between my 2 truck scales ($1,000 for each load cell)it also blew out the network wiring in my office and employee building and blew up 2 fax machines and fried the fax line in both buildings. Total damage $32,000.

I love that show. And it's true. If lightning hits your home and the water is running, the electric current will follow the flow of water. Its the same theory as swimming during a storm.

which brings me to my next question. I wonder how far lightning can travel when it hits water? I also wonder if lightning strikes near a marina is all of those boats electricaly damaged?

I'm guilty of being one of the idiots that never took any of that seriously. But with seeing all of the horror stories you all just posted, I'm definitely going to start now!!flowerforyou flowerforyou

Generaly it wont bother the boats because they are not grounded. they would become the same potential as the charged water around them. Just like those guys who get droped on high tension wires to repair them by helicopter. they simply become part of the circuit. Or a better example would be a bird landing on power lines.
