I'm most curious. Between the two most enduring titles, which one do you prefer.

i'm going tword Final Fantasy. Triforce vs Ultima, The Master Sword vs Omega weapon, Bahamute vs ....ponya? Ganon vs sepheroth or kefka... Though zelda defently has it for the unique equipment.

It's tough to make a decision. I don't want to say that they're completely different, but they are very different. Final Fantasy is a straight RPG whereas the Zelda series is an action RPG.
The Final Fantasy games have great story lines good music and great gameplay. However Final Fantasy's random battle system can get very, very, VERY irritating when trying to get through a certain area. But even if you have an item that lets you avoid random battles, you can't always use it because you need to level up. The games require a fair amount of patience.
The Legend of Zelda series also has fantastic gameplay, good music and good stories. The dungeons can be frustrating when you can't find a key or you just can't find what you have to do to get where you need to go. This is especially true in the water temples [OoT, MM, TP]. The series is always moving forward with unique items [especially the Ocarina], new characters and original bosses, but it always boils down to the same thing....defeating Ganon and rescuing Princess Zelda.
Both games have their up and downs, but if I had to pick right now I'd go with Final Fantasy. Sorry about the rant, it happens sometimes when I get into a discussion on gaming.

These are two totally different games. Both Final fantasy and Zelda were innovative and aided in changing the genre of games themselves. I prefer straight rpgs, so FF wins for me. Well um is there anyway to pretend that X-2, XI did not exist.

I would say final fantasy only because I like the style of game better. I would take Grandia over Final Fantasy though.

I do agree that ff 7 is the best FF game, but I think I enjoyed ocarina of time more. I played it more thats for sure.

FF 7 was also not as good as Skies of Arcadia. That was just a great game.

In my opinion, both have become stale.

Kiddie RPGs...gotta love em. whoa

I'll stick with some good old Forgotten Realms or Dragon Quest, TYVM.

"best" is defined by economic gain vs life of series...they have been around for less than a year apart, i was luckily alive in the true renaissance of the game industry, just past the crude, 4 bit. so watching the evolution in gaming is the same as watching technology and society parallel each other. FF has the most titles out, but (old) Zelda's seriously are timeless. so look it up, who ever made more money is pretty well the winner. huzzah to both and the creators of each for keeping the name alive!
