I guess it depends on how much you know her or about her already.. have ya'll talked on the phone? Emails,etc.. You can get pretty comfortable with someone prior to actually meeting them.. and if thats the case bring her something that you think she might like.. flowers possibly..

Personally, candy or flowers on a first date seems to be going overboard. It's too much when you don't really know someone. Now if you've know the person a while and this is a first day, it would be okay, because you would have a better idea of the things she likes. Too much too soon could appear over eager.
