THE HISTORY OF THE LANDS OF BAVIDIRIAN

***********************************************************

The Lands of Bavidirian was once nothing more then a vast wild land scattered with occasional wild beasts. Eventually, 400,000 cyclones** later the first settlers known as pixies arrived to enter this unexplored part of the world. These small flying creatures no larger then a human’s hand have settled near a specific tree for its magic had drawn their attention. This ancient oak tree now called Brombear the Wise carries powerful magical properties. Pixies drew closer to the tree as it willingly shared its secrets on magic to them. Queen Silvernarion leader of the pixies based her people in the woods and promised an oath to not allow any to bring harm to the sacred tree. It is rumored that Brombear the Wise is the balance that allows no alignment to have more power then the other.

As time passed, many more races inhabitant the lands. High elves settled on the islands. Wood elves settled in the forests never to explore others. A human empire evolved expanding in various parts of the lands. Dwarves resided in the mountains looking for great riches. Hobbits built hill homes as they to never leave their shire. Gnomes entered in mass amounts to escape the turmoil’s and wars from their previous homelands. It is also rumored that in the deepest tunnels of the Dwanen Mountains live nasty creatures of the Undead or those that no one speak of called Demons.

The high elves were the first to explore the Sacred Woods of Silvernarion and made peace with the pixies. They eventually united and learned the magical properties the ancient tree offered, but only if they in return would also provide protection to the tree.

The first major war was when mystical beasts called harpies entered in mass amounts raiding on the eastern fronts of the lands. These beautiful shapeshifters who are a mixture of races have the ability to grow wings and fly seductively towards their victim to gain what is necessary for their survival. Since harpies can only bear female children they must find other races to mate in order to keep their kind alive. As they have immense beauty and the ability to extract a scent upon seducing their victim, they can hypnotize any male and make them helpless to fall under their spell. In the beginning this was not a problem, yet a hundred cyclones later many of the races began to get discouraged.

Council meetings were held inviting other races to form alliances to find a solution to the problem of the mass amount of harpies raiding their homelands. It was the humans who first created special academies for females to become warriors specialized in fighting these powerful shapeshifters. Only female races attended them for they were immune to the odd spells of harpies. The war was long and enduring as eventually the harpies gave up their conquest and retreated away from the lands. Harpies can occasionally still be witnessed, yet the possibility is rare.

This war was a big victory in the lands giving most of the credit to the humans who created these academies and to bring in a closer relation amongst other races. Dwarves, elves, and hobbits continued to enhance relations and formed an alliance to preserve order in the lands.

Only rumors were whispered about what could be boiling in the deepest parts of the earth. Occasionally dwarven adventurers dared to explore the caverns where hobgoblins and goblins, orcs, as of other various beasts dwelled. These vile creatures enjoy the dead world of darkness. Some say those who died of unnatural causes become part of the undead in the deepest parts of the mountains and that demons would entertain themselves with the continuous torturing these unlucky souls must endure.

It was not long when a mysterious wizard integrated himself with high elfin society and influenced a group of high elves to follow him into the caves where goblins and orcs lived. He promised wealth and power beyond imagination. The high elves disregarded the crazy wizard and told them the most powerful magic to exist lays in the Sacred Woods of Silvernarion. Discouraged at the humiliation the evil wizard summoned an army and tried to lay siege to the sacred woods. Pixies fought amongst the high elves with ferocity and had proven victory against the evil wizard known as Pythonian the Snake Lord. Brombear the Wise was scorched yet managed to survive the attacks and the balance of evil and good remains in place. Lord Pythonian disgusted retreated back to his cave where he still managed to bring a group of curious power seeking high elves to follow. They trained intensively with him and created academies both in combat and magic. They became powerful and grew into a community called the Dark Realm of Pythonian.

It took another 50,000 cyclones before their skin began to turn darker and their hair lighter. They have also acquired other useful traits such as receiving great night vision. They became aggressive in nature and favored the personalities of creatures who lived way before them in the underground. Their interests grew stronger in search for more knowledge in fighting skills and the dark arts of magic. Little did they know that Lord Pythonian was planning yet another war. With the defeat on surface, he decided to seek power to rule the underworld by conquering the demons that lived in the deepest parts of the mountains.

The day of reckoning had begun when Lord Pythonian gathered his forces to attack the demons and eliminate their existence forever, yet for some odd reason unknown in our history books, the evil lord disappeared. No one knows why or how it happened leaving the dark elves as of other loyal followers to wonder. The Demons however were awakened and they didn’t take the threat kindly. They united with the undead to fight those who opposed their dominion. The war was at a stalemate for over 1000 cyclones when eventually a demon of great powers emerged in the scene. The demon lord Mora’shi’tar managed to drive out everything from the underground including their arch enemy dark elves that are now forced to live amongst the surface dwellers. Today only a handful of dark elves survive in the Lands of Bavidirian and one is lucky to meet one if so.
Times have changed as now the once strong empire of the Alliance is under threat by powerful leaders who oppose their laws and seek ways to rule the lands. Can the Alliance prevent this unbalance or has their order come to an end?

** The definition of a cyclone**. There are 4 eras in this world. 1 era lasts 100 days. One cyclone is 400 days or 4 eras. Each era represents a season, which are spring, summer, fall, winter.

THE POWER OF THE DARKSCROLLS

***********************************************************

It is recorded by historians that a dark elvin wizard managed to save the last of his kind with the knowledge of powerful scrolls. These scrolls have secret inscriptions powerful enough to even challenge a god if one ever decided to step foot onto the lands. The only problem is that they were created and only understood by Lord Pythonian himself who mysteriously disappeared on the day of reckoning.

Nevertheless, the order of the dark elvin wizards decided to guard these sacred scrolls in hopes to eventually decipher the meanings of them to gain access of how to use its powers. Unfortunately, time was against them as they continued to lose battles against the Undead and Morashi’tars demon hordes. Not only did they lose the battles but the very existence of their kind was at jeopardy. With only a handful of dark elves left the scrolls were in the hands of the last dark elf wizard named Torak’. He at a ripe age managed to decipher some of the scrolls and even used some of its powers against his enemies. Although one would think the tide of the war would shift for the dark elves, their numbers were to few to regain what they had lost.

As the last war was fought in the deepest tunnels of the Dwanen Mountains, Torak' the black wizard managed to ward off the demons and allow time for his people to escape towards the surface. As the last to leave the underground, scorched and exhausted, Torak’ steps foot onto the surface to only witness the dark scrolls explode into his hands. Perhaps Lord Pythonian had cast a spell on them so they would never fall in the hands of a surface dwellers to gain its secrets. Afterall, Lord Pythonian’s defeat on surface gave him a scar to remember and create a vengeance to conquer the surface one day.

Historians do not know if the dark elvin wizard survived the blast, yet it is known that some of the scrolls survived. It is rumored a powerful wizard or perhaps even a god managed to counterspell Lord Pythonians destructive spell on the scrolls to have saved some of them. Today it is recorded that six of the dark scrolls are known to exist in the lands, each of which belongs to one of the six most powerful leaders dwelling in the Lands of Bavidirian.

Historians know that one of the dark scrolls sits in a sacred temple of the High Elves guarded by Queen Silvernarion herself. The second black scroll is in a magical vault guarded by the most powerful paladins the Alliance has to offer in the lands. The third one is in the hands of a feared pirate named Captain Toraldar who flys the battleship "Black Doom". The fourth black scroll is in the hands of a death dragon who leads the undead hordes of the mystic mountains. The fifth is in the firey claws of a dreaded powerful demon named Mora'shi'tar.

The last scroll is in the hands of a ancient dark elvin warrior called Ald'Seran who at the time witnessed the explosion of Torak' the black wizard. Only one scroll was left at that moment as the other 5 were counterspelled and appeared suddenly in the hands of the 5 most powerful leaders the lands has to offer. The sixth scroll was undecided as the two dark elves dueled for its possession for they knew its powers could help shift the tide of power of the lands. As the battle was favoring the wizard Torak', Ald'Seran managed to snatch the scroll at the last moment and cast a disappear spell. He now owns one of the scrolls and has become leader of a huge bandit army. Torak' the black wizard swears to retrieve his property back once he has constructed his tower in the highest peaks of the Dwanen Mountains. Until then he waits to regain his powers to challenge the most powerful leaders the lands has to offer.

THE CAVE OF MORA-SHI -TAR

***********************************************************

**The Alliance vs The Demon Hordes**

Demons and magicians exchange powerful spells as knights and demon servants exchange clashes using odd spiked weapons against hardened steel swords. Blood spill the grounds covering the once peaceful fields that farmers use to plow on. Massive armies try to breach through the many flanks of human, dwarf and elfin resisters who have only small successes in each attempt. The war continues on its 3rd Era as slowly the dark servants find a way to enter the lands for the first time. The darkening clouds with occasional lightning show favor for evil as many lives continue to fall.

A ripe and aged hardened faced man sits on his Pegasus in the background watches intently his men getting slaughtered by the stronger opponent. His scars across his face show the many victories he has won serving his king’s kingdom. His face changes slowly as he sees for the first time that his efforts are stalling. A rider on a swift horse approaches and salutes his commander.

“You have sent for me my lord,” he says in a high pitched voice somewhat shakened at the scenery of battle that the hill presents to him for the first time.

“Send messengers to warn our king that we need reinforcements immediately. Also send more messengers to warn neighboring towns to prepare for attacks. We will do whatever we can to give time for our king to assemble his men,” he orders in a slow defeated tone.

“Yes my lord,” the messenger replies.

He turns his horse immediately and rides down the hill to gather more messengers to carry out the orders.

“My lord the high elvin magician’s are successful in keeping the ninth round of demons inside the cave, yet the dwarven warriors are retreating at the right bay of our flanks,” says a young man with blonde hair sitting on a horse.

“Send in our last round of knights to strengthen the dwarven warrior’s position,” the lord replies. “I shall accompany them soon,” he finishes. The young knight looks at his lord for a moment in shock then urges his horse to descend down the hill to give out the orders.

The day of reckoning has come where hope is the only option against such a magnificent force of evil. How many demon lords can there be he ponders, as he sees another group of demon riders on floating horses avoid spells from high elvin magicians. A triangular shaped portal appears a few feet away from the huge cave as grotesque demon riders on flamed red bulls enter the surface for the first time. Magic enshrouds them suddenly as two high elvin magicians battle he nearest demon rider.

The lord unsheathes his glowing sword for the first time and raises it high into the sky. Knights below cheer as their lone paladin hero begins to chant a war message amongst his men. They soon join him singing at the top of their lungs.

The time has come to fight a war
the laughter ends as we push for more

a gash a gush is nothing to feel
a smash with rush is the way to deal

let them come the beasts and burdens
we shall win for the feasts for certain

Battle is upon us! Battle is upon us!
Rattle the fuss. Scatter the dust

One fight, two fight lets us use our might
Three fight, four fight and we will win the fight

“Hooray! Hooray to Lord Denonimas!” cheers the men as their leader urges his pegasus to ride forward to enter battle.

Lord Denonimas continues to chant the same war rhythm gathering his last brigade of knights to fight.

The time has come to fight a war the
laughter ends as we push for more

a gash a gush is nothing to feel
a smash with rush is the way to deal………….

His men continue to sing with him and charge with jousts pointing at the nearest gargoyles who are one of the many dark servants of the demon lords.

I'm working on a short story called "True Colors" -- it's about a girl who discovers a new color when she accidentally spills some paint cups from a Paint-By-Numbers kit and they blend into something no one has ever seen before. The problem is that she's the only one who can see the new color.

It ties in, peripherally, to the "Moving Day" storyline, but I'm writing it as a more or less stand-alone piece.

I may post an excerpt once I brush it up a little. Tentatively, this story shoud end up in the fifth book of the "Moving Day" series.

Now that will be really interesting indeed! How creative!

So are you going to make a whole series of books that link together? What are the goals for these projects? If you could elaborate for me. thank you

4. When is the best time of the day to write? Do you take breaks or do you write many hours nonstop?

Hi John, Nice to see you again. I like this question. I have been known to bolt straight up at 1am, 2am or 3am to write something that came to me in my sleep, so as to capture that first thought in its purest form. Of course we revise and revise and revise but I think my writing biorhthyms are working best in my subconscious mind. Sometimes it can be after a writer's block I could not get past when wide awake. Anyone else experience anything like this?
I also tend to write nonstop, at times I cannot stop myself, completely lose track of time and will realize the sun has come up and its time to leave for work.
Kind Regards,Francine

TENSE QUESTION!

Ok, relax, it's not really a tense question is just a question about tense.

I just got majorly chewed out on a writer's forum because my story thus far is written in the present tense. They said that's a no-no, always write in the past tense.

Is this true?

It's no biggie. I can go back and rewrite it in past tense easy enough. It wouldn't change the scene or the story. I wasn't aware that all novels are written in the past tense. I need to get a bunch of novels to look in. As silly as this sounds I don't have any laying around my house too look at.

But I sure as heck would like to get this squared away now before I write 300 pages in the present tense only to be told that I have to rewrite the whole thing in the past tense.

May as well write it in the proper tense the first time through. ohwell

So is this true? All novels are written in the past tense? That's the standard?

I didn't know. I wrote my story in the present tense like as if it was happening live. I thought that was cool. glasses

What say you all?

Clearly I'm not a writer since I have no clue about these things.

Past tense is more common and conventional. I do most of my stuff in present tense now because it has more of a sort of immediacy to it -- and that appeals to me, for some reason.

The thing that convinced me was John Updike's "Rabbit" novels -- all in present tense. I had never actually run into that before, but it just seemed more alive, more theatrical, to me. I decided to try it out, and I liked it.

I still do some things in past tense -- "Moving Day" is in past tense because it's first-person narrative, and I don't think that works so well in present tense (there would be way too much "I go to the sink and I get a glass of water and I turn on the TV and I watch Jerry Springer....") but it seems very natural to use present tense in third person narrative.

I perfer the present tense too. I think it's more dynamic. But I just got majorly chewed out on a writer's forum for using the present tense.

Although, I have no clue who the person is that chewed me out. Maybe it's just someone who get's their rocks off going around chewing people out. laugh

I never take anything too seriously, the post really came across like I had done the stupidest thing any author could possible do. But he had a lot of other harsh comments too. He as quite negative actually without offering any help.

Another woman helped me tremendously with some grammar corrections, and even corrected a few spots where I had inadvertently used the past tense (being inconsistent with my mostly present tense). She just changed those to the present tense.

She didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with present tense.

I'm going to go with the present tense if it's even remotely acceptable. bigsmile

I perfer writing in the 'now'.

Now that is the kind of writing I know myself. You write and write and write and forget time in general! Just more and more ideas seem to accumulate as you write. Then again I sometimes throw away half of the crap I wrote. lol

Francine if you have anything to share then don't hesitate to post it in here. A poem, a short story, or anything. We would love to read it.

Now this is actually a song from John Lennon, but to me it looks like poetry. Could some of the songs that are written also qualify as poetry? How do you see the difference or is there a difference?indifferent

John Lennon - Imagine

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Since there is no hard and fast definition of what constitutes poetry, I would think that all songs are nothing more than poetry set to music.

However, I will say this, I've written poetry that was easy to convert to a song, and I've written poetry that I feel would be quite hard to sing "as is".

Although, having said that I have to say that Reverend Rabbit has turned some of my poetry into some really cool music. glasses

For example, I wrote all of the poems on the following web page just as poems. Reverend Rabbit put them all to music. The only one that I actually wrote as a song was S1owhand at the bottom of the page.

The one I would like to bring particular attention to is, "Don't Blame The Mathematicians".

I wrote the poem on the fly as a response in a thread. I was just goofying off and never dreamed anyone could make a song out of it, but Reverend Rabbit, made a really cool song from it:

It the 5th song down on this page.

http://www.csonline.net/designer/ideas/spirit.htm

I love what he did with "The War is Over". That song sounds like Simon and Garfunkle could have written it. bigsmile

Very nice music(poetry)! Wow James! Again you surprise me.

So then poetry is music as music is poetry.

Or like the dictionary defines:

it is literature in metrical form

Any communication resembling poetry in beauty or the evocation of feeling

Now it brings me further of trying to figure out how it all started. It couldn't be Shakespeare could it?

Researching now, but if anyone has answers add it in the forum.

Thanks:smile:
