Yes, it is a good idea. And yes, I even checked a certain someone out bigsmile I would not meet ANYONE from online without doing so.

This said, I will say I still think internet dating can be a safe venue if you just use common sense. I mean, you could meet some pervert at a bar just as easy than online. At least online you get a chance to ask a lot of questions, do a backgournd check, get address and phone numbers...etc. If a man won't give you his home and work number and address...runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! A google search of name and address can be done as well.

Hey, Thanks everyone for replying to my post this morning....sorry for not being able to stay at the computer and read them as they came in....had to go to a meeting....gotta work for a living....bummmer....I paid for a background check after the initial check at publicdata turned up that age difference. I told my friends the very first time I saw his picture that he looked 10 yrs older than me....turnes out I was right.

I work in a field where I see people victimized everyday, I work in a field of mostly women....At my age I'm not doing the bar scene and can't expect prince charming to ride up on his white horse and knock on my front door. I want to date again, but I also want to feel safe.

Thanks for all the encouragement....Onward!

He could have owned the house with his sister....people do that as well.

No Ive never done a background check but what program did you use and did it cost anything?huh

Gypsy I'm not sure how it is over there, but here all records are public access. You can look by city and county in their records..Gives you criminal, domestic (marriages and divorces) It will tell you anything but "child" related things.

You can also google someones name and see what comes up..Mine comes up, but It's all good stuff I've done for non profit organizations and projects I've worked on for raising money and what not.

where do you do a background check?? I would love to do one... but you have every right to do it!! you meet him on the internet and its hard to trust people on the internet, I would forget about him and move on.. if he lied about his age what else could he lie about? deff would be calling NEXT!! flowerforyou

Boy, I'm telling you all, it's not just the internet. Remember, there's a human behind the profile. Could be your neighbor or a person from church, internet or not!! grumble

Are people through the internet likely to be more weird than people you meet in person? Couldn't a person meet face to face and lie about things too?

I've always wondered about that. I also feel bad for women because there always seems to be more weird guys than weird girls. Well, at least that's what is was when a friend of mine was trying to meet guys. Then again, she has pictures of herself in her bra on her profile. You hook what you set the bait for I guess.

Amen to that one....

I'm a better judge inperson, I can read people's eyes much better but I can read em' in pictures sometimes too...bigsmile

I've only done it twice. Once a background check, once running a cell# thru the reverse white pages.

Both times I regretted it.

I've dated dozens of guys from offline .. in person. I find that the best barometer. Just MEET. The reports are a joke.

I don't regret my choice to check up on someone I only know from online or on the phone. Online, on the phone or in person, anyone can be anyone they want to be. I am truthful and want to be trustful of others....but I say better safe than sorry. I don't regret this person knowing I checked up on him. It was obvious that he had something to hide or else he wouldn't have gotten so mad. Afterall, why would he have been so offended if everything he had told me had been the truth. I feel like if I tell the truth, it's what I expect of others.....but in reality I know that is not the case.

Girls, out there, Be Safe, not sorry after investing your emotions and finding out that what you think you are getting is not what you thought you were getting. Would you invest in a car without getting a carfax? Invest in a house without getting an inspection or appraisal? And those are material things....not your heart or personal being.
