You know, personally, I think I have a highly refined sense of spirituality...capable of encompassing people of all religions without judging them or damning them only because their faith differs from mine. I think it makes one more "Godly" (for lack of a better word or phrase) to be able to listen with an open mind, realize that the other's faith/opinion isn't wrong...only different...and accepting the fact that I don't know everything...will never know everything...and some things are supposed to remain a mystery. Questions without answers. Unless you look at the answer from the most simplest of views.

When I asked my 7 year old son what the meaning of life was, he responded: "Meaning of life? You mean...why there is life? Or what our life means?" I told him either, he said: "There's life because there's supposed to be life." I asked him why. He said, "Because there just is." He said it so matter of factly, like I should already know that. When I asked him about the other, he said: "Our life means being good to each other and loving everybody and just..living." I couldn't have said it better myself. drinker

I think as adults we over-analyze everything...there is only "one" answer to any equation...and some answers arn't acceptable, so we spend our lives trying to prove them wrong. If only we were all 7 year olds again. How much simpler and happier the world would be...oh wait...except when it comes to sharing the toys. laugh

you will find as you age scinn- that all "real truth's" are simple - and should be understood as simply as your son does - i hope he holds on to that.happy

I have to tell you i have been reading all of this..and it makes me kind of sad how some people feel that what they say should be the "right "way...all people have different beliefs about there god....and everyone has the right to how they feel and think...
I beleive in "my god" and i believe in Jesus but i also am very spiritual....i believe that god is everywhere...and everything...i am a good person and i teach my children about him....but i also feel my children should make there own decision about how they want to feel about about there own religion....my kids started to go to a youth group every week and my one son loves it the other not really for him...i respect that in him...he is like me..believes in god and prays to him...and that to me makes me happy enough right now....
i do have to say i was brought up catholic...when i was pregnant with my son becasue i wasnt married to the father i was told by the church that if i wasnt marrioed to the dad then i was going to go to hell and that i was living in sin...i was so shocked that, that day i stopped being a catholic...i dont think anyone on this earth had the right to judge others becasue they dont believe in anothers religion....i believe and this is only my belief that only god has the right to judge you and i think that is how you live your life and whether you were a good peron on this earth...but that is just my opinion...

Precisely! Nail on the head! drinker drinker I was raised Mormon, given no choice in it what-so-ever, and the day I turned 18 and was finally granted my own choice I left and never went back. Now, mind you, I started learning and reading about other religions secretly through books in the library and the internet when I was 13. But I don't think religion is something you can force on someone, it's a highly personal experience and only that person can really be intune and recognize what it is. For some it's one religion, for others it's another...and I don't think it's right or wrong. It simply is. :)

And same here, all 3 of my children were born out of wedlock, and people can point and judge all they like. But they don't know the circumstances, they don't know my life and they don't know why I've made the choices I have. What they should know, though...is that when I found out I was pregnant with all 3 of my children. I had 3 choices each time. Abortion. Adoption. Responsibility.

Hi everyone

FIRST:

Finally speaking about the money involved for such campaignes - has anyone considered how many MILLIONS OF DOLLARS the Christian Right Wing is throwing at the California same sex marriage amendment????? I'm sure you will see billboards. In the mean time - there are people starving not just in the world but right here in the U.S. .

Apparently it's better to starve then to allow homosexuals equality in the law. MILLIONS OF DOLLARS - IN ONE STATE how much will it cost to win every state and MAINTAIN discrimination for sake of Christianity?????

ME - I just need some donations PAINT is not too expensive and black pain can cover a lot of space - even the size of a billboard.

drinker

Excuse me...while I put on my political hat for a minute...

Well I guess if people weren't pushing their crap on other people there would be no need for those billboards...Yu think?

Maybe if govt. funding wasn't going to things like piss art, abortion & needles for drug addicts, to name a few, there might be more funding for the poor.

Don't you go there with me around. Plenty is being given to help the poor & needy not only here but around the world by many religious orgs., PRIVATE funding too, while people like YOU waste our tax dollars to support your habits & phobias, & your counter cluture warped thinking.

So don't tell us where to spend OUR money...what's left anyway. Some here are nothing more than counter culturists who hate anything that's good about America. Crawl back under the rock YOU came from ....

Hi everyone

FIRST:
It is my understanding that most of us have been talking about the will of "God" as you call it or the higher power as some of us prefer, whereas you alone have been talking about your own personal will because you don't seem to accept that a higher power is beyond any of our understandings.

I love your posts though quickstepper you've done more to demonstrate cultural prejudice, blind faith, and hatred as applied to religion than any of us ever could have without you!

Sometimes honesty can be so difficult to present. But in the end I guess IT IS ALL ABOUT THE HONESTY, or at least, so I'm told. drinker

SECONDLY - hey - what billboards in Indiana (Cute?) I mean when where you here? The whole "would Jesus discriminate" campaign was awesome - it even included bumper magnets and lawn signs (that SOME communities scared their residents into takeing down). Becasue you see it was a campaign against ANTI-HOMOSEXUAL Christian activities that insist on discrimination.

By the way, I still have my bumper sticker on, and I not only kept my sign on the lawn, I called city hall and after a long LEGAL chat, I kept mine up and told others to do the same. But sometimes, the fear is deep and one will only rock the boat so far. I never built a boad, so I just wing it - FREE FALLING maybe. That campaign was about two years ago.

i was there back in 2000 and all i saw was hell and brimstone signs though the campaign you are talking about sounds cool.

Do you realize how many millions GLBT spent fighting the Oregon Constitutional amendment? I can find the figure if you want?
Now multiply that times at least 50 for every state in the Nation.
And your worrying about what the Christian right spends in one state.
What a hypocritical bunch of propaganda that is!

$2.8 million, in Oregon in 2004 alone!

Well...This just took an interesting turn..? Honestly, I'm really not concerned with how much money is spent on the billboards or if they want to use the billboards or take that money and burn it in a bonfire lol I mean...in the end...it's their money and they can spend it how they please same as I can spend mine. :) I was just really more interested in seeing if anyone would find it offensive if another religion decided to do the same..

And erm...just to address one thing (which I know was in response to something someone else said...but, anyway lol) I don't believe that abortion should be advertised, I havn't seen any advertisement that stood on a Pro platform for drug use, though I have seen (and approve) of a vast advertisement effort for Anti drug use platforms. (speaking of illegal drugs and perscription drugs used in a manner not intended, here...for clarification) And I am a proud supporter of arts and music in schools. I think it's a good thing and should most deffinately been advertised and encouraged...I don't believe for one moment that art (and music...though it wasn't mentioned) should ever be allowed to fall through the cracks or removed or considered a bad thing.
