Violence does not come from anywhere but what one has been taught, millions of children play the same violent video games daily and feel nothing but fun. Seperation of reality and virtual reality is a difficult concept for some...

I think it was Harvard that conducted a study on this... results were negative. They couldn't find a relation between the two. I've played these violent games all of my life, and there isn't the least inclination or desire for me to commit some sort of crime. same here but i have wanted to go pick up prostitues like you can in GTA |

they have violence in them and they can and probably do affect weak minded and the young, the young arent supposed to play it so the parents who do nuthin while their 8 year old kicks a hookers head in on the game has no right EVER to speak if he gets in a fight later, and the weak minded inbiciles should take some personal responsibilty and either control their anger or stop playin the damn game
i used to and occasionally still play the more gruesome games and they dont make me violent they make me less, i use em to vent *shoots a group of people* thats todays frustrations gone in a nice laugh but im not goin outside to do it forreal lol |

Japanese people play just as many games if not more than us and they have a much lower crime rate. I like all kinds of games, some I play are shooters such as halo3 and call of duty 4. When I am in a good game and my friends are playing yea, I get a rush. It doesn't make me violent though.
Games have different ratings just like movies have different ratings. Games are not just for kids. For the guy who asked, GTA is rated M(mature) in the states. I use to work at a game store and I saw parents buy GTA games for their 4 yr olds. Not only that, but they knew what the game was about and how bad it was. They just didn't care. Maybe at that age they are impressionable, I don't know though because I am not a psychologist. I even worked at an arcade during the sniper attacks and they wanted to blame it on a game called Silent Scope. |

Remember Columbine High School massacre! IT was blamed on Doom out of all games. I think on doom you were killing Daemons and Zombies (or possessed space marines?) and what the hell is wrong with that? I do honestly feel that your upraising has a lot to do with it. Parents should spend more time interacting with their children. Since the beginning of time their has been people that kill and those who protect and in todays day and age it hasn't changed.

I'm really not seeing how games or anything makes anyone violent. If a kid's not taught (aka PARENTED) like they should be, well it should be obvious they're going to do something stupid they saw on TV or in a game.
I also don't see how a game teaches anyone how to handle a gun or any real world skills for things that affect things in the real world. Just because you can snipe a penny from a mile away in the newest military simulator doesn't mean you're going to be able to do it in real life. If you manage that one, let me know. Maybe people should actually be... you know... responsible for their actions. |

I absolutely believe that violent movies and violent games have the -potential- to promote violence in some people... but I don't believe this is a significant social problem. The people who actually commit violent acts have other contributing factors - far more important than games.
The rest of us can enjoy the games and movies without becoming violent. |

A single bad beating in childhood can lead to the development of a bitter and violent personality down the road, but I don't believe 48 straight hours of GTA IV can present a serious negative impact to a kid with a good head on his/her shoulders.
Having said that, there is the rush of playing a game, largely due to the almost god-like control a good player has over his/her video game environment. Certainly, I'm as guilty as the next guy of massacreing entire towns in Fable Lost Chapters, but once the game is turned off, that is where it ends, because I was brought up with values and the knowledge that hurting and, yes, killing others brings with it consequences, that cannot be reversed. There's no reset button on life. Can video games make violent people more violent? It's possible, but that violent person probably suffers from severe emotional/physical trauma to have gotten to that position in the first place. Therefore, if there were no video games, said person would probably still discover an outlet somewhere in this violent world we live in, and would be no less destructive. |
