Religion has been around for maybe 3,000 years at the very most. Spirituality and philosophy have been around for thousands of more years.

Who decides what's right and what's wrong?

Isn't it all upon an individual basis as to what we believe or disbelieve?

In all my research and studies over the years the only proof that I've seen is that religion seems to segregate and tear each other apart rather than bring everyone together. Most of the wars in the last 1000 years have been over religions and whose is better.

People have been burned, tortured, killed and gone into hiding due to their beliefs over the years.

I believe the question becomes when does it stop and where does the peace and harmony come into play?

when we decide we do not want any rift between us and our fellow humans, and nature itself, and dismiss all forms of organized religion as it stands

I think it's slowly getting better, but it will still take awhile, as the world gets smaller and smaller with transportation and technology the communication between people of all countries and religions will bridge the gap. It takes a truely ignorant person to start a war between religious factions these days, and we got him, I'm not gonna say we elected him, because I'm not sure.

Do you believe that we can create the peace by becoming more tolerant of one another and then with the collective consciousness of wanting the greater good of the whole it can then become possible?

I have some friends that have a camp here. They invite teenagers from Israel and Palestine 15 from each country. They come here and spend a month together, become friends and when they go back they keep in touch and get together which is not easy, they have amazing stories, they are really helping in one intense area
Deva Foundation They are on the web

Maybe people are afraid of letting go of what they know. People tend to automatically reject change because they fear it.

I think it is easier to point out our differences than our similarities. Everyone strives to be this individual but have no problem clutching to a religion that sets boundaries of existence. I believe major religions focus on good and tell you exactly what they believe to be good. The spiritual being recognizes that we all have light and dark within us and aim to be at peace with themselves and the world around. Spirituality is a personal path to enlightment and peace and those along those paths respect that everyone's is different. Religion should not be different.

The individual decides what they think is right and wrong.

they are all the same...each are just a splinter sect of perceived reality ..they are little more than forms of politics

Who decides what's right and what's wrong?

each individual decides what's wrong and then society decides which individual is wrong

Of course right and wrong could be considered an just an opinion.

I believe that when and if mutual respect and dignity are a universal expectancy and paramount to any social contract, then peace and harmony will reign.

We may not make it as a species to that point.

But I believe in it.

I totally agree.

Treating others with respect and dignity are of paramount importance.

I know this is a tall order for the world, but oh what wonders that alone would do even if nothing else changed.
