Because people do not read or study the bible for them selves
They trust someone else to do that for them. people don't think for them selves. If a self proclaimed expert tells them it is so they believe it.
this is true of far to many thing these days

--- 3As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"

4And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you.

5"For many will come in My name, saying, 'I AM THE CHRIST,' and will mislead many. ---

That's why people believe it and follow it. Because Christ said they would. Do NOT believe them!!! There is only one way, and that way is The Way, The Truth, and The Light. Jesus Christ. There is NO other way to God and NO other way to heaven.

The video you posted a link to above shows a manipulative man and his dumbstruck and desperate followers. It's nothing new and it won't be the last time a person of limited intelligence convinces wayward and non-critical thinking individuals to follow.

Adults I have no issue with. If an adult wants to dumb down to the point of thinking this guy the most recent incarnation of god--fine, enjoy, have fun. Where this gets sick is when children are involved.

Sad--really sad.

All religion's are cults, history proves that - there is nothing being done to day by christian cults that has not taken place throughout man's religious history. Jewish, christian,Moslem or otherwise.

It has alot to do with people accepting what is normal to them and where they feel a place of belonging.

But isnt that what religion is? Someone telling someone else how to live their life to get to a better place.

Its nothing more than a power trip

Well if you do your research for real you'll find that christian and catholic faiths are base on other religons all together ... the altar - pagen ... drinking and eating the body of christ - canabulism ... the cross - wiccan ... there's more but i cant think of it right now

Well lets see now..... they fell for it 2000 years ago and Christianity was born.

The Jews said a messiah was coming and... well, that's what started it all, right?

The only people who haven't fallen for it are the Jewish people.

Could it be because the original story about the coming messiah was all a scam in the first place and they know it?

Just wondering.

Yes, the fact that so many people can actually believe in Christianity truly has me in a state of disillusionment too.

As Sammie points out, Christianity is clearly just an elaboration of so many Mediterranean Myths.

The idea that the real God would just accidentally be almost precisely as all these other manmade myths is extremely slim. Virtual unrealistic to the point of being utterly absurd.

http://www.pocm.info/index.html

The whole Christian religion is based on precisely the same folklore as Judaism and Islam. They are actually just one huge religion that fell into parts. Yet look at them! They are at each other’s throats prepared to kill each other over the same basic folklore!

It’s utterly insane.

Yet look at the masses! Not only do they eat this stuff up like it’s the last meal on earth, but they also defend it tooth and nail when they can’t possibly have any reason to believe it. On the contrary, there are a myriad of reasons why they shouldn’t believe it. It’s clearly just more of the same manmade myths.

Yet they have no problem at all rejecting the myths from which it was actually derived!

It's truly insane. ohwell

I actually have a theory about that.

Clearly there was a rabbi man named Jesus who was crucified unjustly by the Romans. This caused a huge uproar in the people, and this man named Jesus was seen as a Martyr. There were probably even rumors going around that he was God.

So in response to this the Roman’s decided to make the Martyr into a God. They created the gospels and wrote them up according. Partly with the rumors of this man named Jesus, and partly with demagoguery added from the Old Testament. After all, what better way to give this figure authenticity than to make it appear that his life was foretold by the Old Testament. There were already rumors of supernatural events like the idea that Jesus was born of a virgin and was seen having been risen form the dead, so they used that information too. They created a church where people could worship Jesus as a God. Thus solving their Martyrdom problem. They simply turned the martyr into a God and used him to regain control of the people.

Well, a lot of the Jews probably realized that this was precisely what was happening and they simply didn’t fall for it.

End of story.

But it did work well to keep a lot of other people under the thumb of the church. All too well, I might add.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised at all if this is what happened.

The bottom line today is that we can't have a clue what really happened 2000 years ago. Yet we do know that the stories told about Jesus were commonplace in all the mythologies of the period, and for quite some time earlier too.
