Your hatred is showing.

I haven’t said a solitary hateful thing.

On the contrary I’m preaching pure love.

There’s no justification in going around coldcocking people just because you don’t agree with their relationship with God.

I’m basically agreeing with Jesus that Christians should learn to turn the other cheek.

When Jesus teaches it, it’s considered love.

When I support his teachings you say that my hatred is showing.

Funny how that works.

If I misunderstood, I apologize.

Yes, Christians should try to turn the other cheek.

But when someone keeps slapping it, something has to be done.

Thank you. I'll be the first to agree in self-defense, although I never condone physical action as a defense against words in any case.

Just for the record, if you go back and re-read the joke, you’ll see that the professor had looked to the ceiling and was speaking directly to God and not to the marine anyway.

So he wasn’t slapping anyone on the face. He was challenging God directly.

How is that anyone’s concern other than between the professor and God?

Maybe the Viking God Thor would have struck him dead with his hammer. Who knows? He didn’t even specific which God he was addressing. He was really leaving himself wide open for attack by any God.

He probably never thought that the marine would think that he was God. bigsmile

I guess in that sense it is a pretty funny joke. laugh

But it still doesn’t excuse the actions of the marine in a religious sense.

But it wasn't just between the professor and God.

He was in a whole roomful of people when he said it, they would have heard him and it would have obviously offended the Christians in the audience.

But it's fiction anyway.

But why would it offend just Christians? Other people besides Christians believe in God.

I believe in God and my faith in God is a lot stronger than most Christians.

Atheists that challenge God don't offend me in the slightest. I can totally relate to their anger and frustration.

Most atheists are closer to the true God than religious people are. They have taken back their personal power from the Church and from outside invisible authorities.

I respect that a lot. They question things as they should.

Ok, then it would offend those who believe in God.

It might not offend you, but that's just you.

Man, I feel like Obama when he had to apologize for the 'sweetie' remark!

It is my personal opinion that it would not offend a person who had true faith. They would just view the ranting professor with pity or amusement.

What is true faith?

And how do you know when you have it?

I’m still at a total loss as to why any Christian would be offended by that.

I used to be a Christian at one time and I was never offended by people who don’t believe in God.

Why should a Christian be offended by someone who doesn’t believe in God???

That’s the part I’ll never understand.

Christians don't believe in Pantheism, that doesn't offend me in the least.

They even make fun of it saying "So you believe God is in rocks?", and then they laugh like as if that's a silly notion.

It doesn't offend me at all. They're just ignorant. Why should I be offended by other people’s ignorance?

No one should ever be offended by people who believe differently then them.

I guess when you stop feeling like you need to defend your position.

Well some people are easily offended and some are not.

It's not a matter of what people should do, but what they would do.

When you're no longer offended by people who believe differently from you. Only then do you have true faith.

Otherwise, you have no faith at all.

When you can feel the oneness of all, the connection that we all have with each other, which is love, then you realize that there is no opposition, only different perspectives.

Ignorance is darkness, enlightenment is realizing that I am you and you are me.

If you could go back in time and meet yourself, and attempt to talk some sense into yourself or convince yourself of something you have discovered and did not know back then, just how successful do you think you would be?

Not very, because you were not at a point in your life that you were ready to listen to others, even yourself from the future.

JB

I know I would not have listened to myself. laugh laugh laugh

I respectfully disagree.

I believe that people who have faith can be offended, but there are varying degrees of faith.

I don't think that you either have faith or you don't.

I think people can have no faith, weak faith, lukewarm or strong faith.

But even strong faith can lead to pride, which must be avoided.

Funny that this story is so inspirational when most people who say God spoke to them and proceed to commit an act of violence, are usually considered nuts.Thank goodness the Marine wasn't armed.Playing God would have had a whole new meaning .
My opinion of this story is it is scary to think any act of violence towards another would be consdered justified as long as you do it in the name of God.

LOL...funny...

After reading all the posts it's very apparent that some here didn't "get it." It just goes to show that no matter how honorable, some will never appreciate God or our military.

Happy Memorial Day & God bless our Military.

Trust me we "got" it. It was hard to miss. I think you are the one who does not "get it."

It's a typical Fundamentalist right-wing, go-to-war, Be-a-Christian Joke.
