Schools are offering sexual education classes, how many of you are for educating/reinforcing sexual education at schools? How many prefer to do it themselves???

would you pull your child from that class? keep your child home if you knew that class was going to be held?

I do not have children yet, but I fully support sex education in schools. I was a lead peer educator for two years at my college. We went to freshmen floors and taught safe sex practices and safe drinking practices. It was amazing to me how many of the kids coming in had no idea when it came to these topics! Sex education is exceedingly important. They're going to have sex either way, it's better to have them doing it when they're as informed as possible.

i think its a good idea..my son was eight when he started to pick stuff up from the playground..luckily we have very good communication and i got a book for his age group and we sat down and went threw it..but it woud be good to be backed up by the school.. especially about safe sex...and i would also tell my son if hes not sure or confused to tell me...half of what gos on with kids and sex is ignorance

Personally....this might sound too harsh but.....I always had thought kids on a field trip...all in one day.....the jails....the YWCA/homeless shelters and shelters for battered women and children........as well as photos of abortions.....that should take care of unwanted and early pregnancies but too many would say that that is too extreme and unnecessary...to them I say......then where is the answer and why haven't you found one yet that works? if you got a better one than why hasn't it been done yet?

yes, I would. As well as answer questions my daughter has about it and have a talk with her at home. I want her to be educated, it's her best defense.

honestly that's not really that effective.. scare tactics don't really work. kids need to see reasonable consequences otherwise they'll keep the "it wont happen to me" mentality. It's better to teach them to do things responsibly rather than try to get them to not do it at all. They will either way, but if you go with the "if you have sex, you will get pregnant and get std's, even if you use a condom" type of tactic, they'll end up doing it anyway just not using protection because why bother if it'll happen either way?

(not saying that was your stance, just commenting on the scare tactic way of going about things in general)
